Uneasy with Gators, Robinson Picks Tigers on Signing Day

by -

Akeem Robinson Left tackle/tight end Carol City High School (Miami, Fla.) 6'4", 255 lbs. If he takes nothing else away from the recruiting process, Akeem Robinson will always remember that he was never unwanted. As late as 1 a.m. on the eve of National Signing Day, Robinson found himself with Clemson coach Tommy Bowden on one line, and Florida's Ron Zook on the other. "They were both making their last input as salesmen," Robinson said. "It was pretty late and I was tired, but I decided to take everything in one last time. I knew that as soon as I got some time to myself, I would be able to make a decision." That decision came at 1:20 a.m. Unlike fellow Florida high school standout Mike McIntosh, who verbally committed to Clemson but at the last minute chose Florida, Robinson felt that Clemson was the place for him. "It was just a gut feeling that I had on the inside," Robinson said. "I just knew that Clemson was the place for me. And at the same time, I felt there was something not right with the University of Florida, and that I needed to stay as far away from it as possible." "They (Clemson) beat Florida State and if a few things would have gone their way, could have won the ACC title. Clemson is definitely a team on the rise." Robinson said that he has been told by Clemson officials that he could come in and be the third string tight end, but he is optimistic for early playing time. "I have to make my own path," Robinson said. "I have never been one to go on what other people say." Clemson assistant Ron West recruited the Robinson for the Tigers.
