Top Clemson WR target making his mark with new school

Capers visited Clemson for the Tigers' win over NC State

It’s not easy changing high schools. Especially when you are a highly-recruited football player, but top Clemson target Ze’Vian Capers is making it work to both his benefit and the school’s benefit.

Capers, a 2020 3-star prospect out of Alpharetta (GA) Demark, has offers from Clemson, Tennessee, Arkansas, Louisville and others. Capers is one of the few Denmark players with previous varsity experience – the school is in its first year – after he had 600 yards receiving last season at South Forsyth.

How did he wind up at Denmark?

“They were building a new school, and where we are living right now we got redistricted to go there,” Capers told TigerNet. “We did have the option to stay at South Forsyth, but Coach (Terry) Crowder had a meeting with my parents and my parents felt comfortable with me going to Denmark. Especially with Denmark running the spread offense, which will get the ball in my hands a lot more and allow me to do what I do, which is score touchdowns. That is what led to our decision to go to Denmark.”

Capers is second in the state in receiving yards with 1,069 on 50 catches with 10 touchdowns. He went over the 1,000-yard mark two weeks ago with a season-high 188-yard effort in a 28-27 victory over White County that kept Denmark (5-4, 2-3) in the playoff hunt in Region 7-AAAA.

The added buzz means added recruiting, but Capers says the Tigers are recruiting him the hardest and Clemson is the school where he feels the most comfortable.

“Coach (Jeff) Scott and Coach (Brandon) Streeter, I really talk to them the most in my recruiting process,” Capers said. “I talk to a lot of other coaches as well, like Louisville and Georgia Tech and Miss. St. and Florida, but Clemson has been able to stand out because I have been visiting there for a while now. I am feeling comfortable with the situation there.

“The big thing is communication, to make sure we are both on the right path and making sure what they are telling me is true. And from a recruiting standpoint, making sure I feel comfortable there, a place where I can excel on the field and off the field and get a great education. It's being comfortable with everything and them being close to home.”

Sitting second on the list is Clemson rival South Carolina.

“South Carolina would be second. I visited South Carolina when they played Texas A&M. I was really impressed - the football was good and everything, but I was impressed with their players' lives after football and what they do after football,” Capers said. “With how many players they get internships at summer jobs during the offseason, so that was kind of amazing to me because they are football players but they have goals that they want to accomplish after football. Football can only take you to a certain extent, so that was the main thing that caught my eye a little bit. They treat you like family and it's a great atmosphere.”

Capers visited Louisville last weekend, will visit Florida for the Gators’ game against Missouri this weekend and plans to be at Arkansas when the Razorbacks host LSU on Nov. 10th. He plans to make a decision in the spring.
