The Clemson Tigers are making a move on one of the Class of 2012’s best defensive ends .

Jarontay Jones, a 6-3, 235-pounder out of Stephenson (Stone Mountain, Ga.) High School, has had Auburn atop his leader board since his recruitment began. He boasts 16 offers after North Carolina offered earlier this week

However, adding defensive ends coach Marion Hobby to the Clemson staff and Clemson’s success in putting defensive linemen in the NFL have Clemson making a move for the junior, who racked up 90 tackles, 26 tackles for loss and 16 sacks during the 2010 season.

“I talk to Coach Hobby a lot, and my mom really likes him,” Jones told TigerNet. “I am definitely impressed with Clemson. When Coach Hobby was at Duke, I liked him, but Duke wasn’t really my kind of program. And I really wasn’t that into Clemson. But once he got to Clemson, that all changed.

“I was talking about Coach Hobby today, and how he told me he could help me and coach me. It seems like every year, Clemson is putting a defensive end or a lineman in the NFL. It’s like every year, they put a starter in the league.”

Jones said that playing for a program like Stephenson makes him a better player.

“It has helped me a lot, because we have so many great players,” Jones said. “I feel like all of my teammates can play on the next level, and I think we should win state every year. Jermaine Cunningham [second round draft pick of the Patriots last season] was at the school working out before signing weekend. I talked to him. He told me to keep working hard, and what it was like playing defensive end at Florida. That makes me want to work even harder.”

Jones said that Auburn still holds a slim lead, with Florida in second and Clemson coming on very strong.

“I am just sorting everything out right now, and taking it one day at a time,” he said. “It seems like there isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t talk to college coaches or someone in the media. “
