Defensive End Commits to Tigers

CLEMSON -- According to, Gaines Adams of Fork Union Prep, VA has committed to the Tigers.
Adams, who is 6-6 and 235 pounds, played high school football for Greenwood (SC) Cambridge Academy and reportedly committed to the Tar Heels earlier this month.

However, on Tuesday Adams decided to commit to Clemson over North Carolina. He also had interest from Michigan State, Maryland, Florida, NC State, and South Carolina.

“Adams is a player that schools did not know a lot about coming out of high school,” said recruiting analyst Mickey Plyler. “ This is a great example of a kid that improved his stock through a year in prep school. He has a big frame and a very good upside.”

In 10 games this season as a defensive end, Adams had 58 tackles and 19 sacks while also playing tight end for Coach John Shuman at Fork Union. In high school Adams, recorded 22 sacks on defense and had over 1300 receiving yards on offense as a wide receiver.

Adams was recruited by Clemson assistant Ron West.
