Dantzler to Have Surgery At End of Season

CLEMSON, SC -- Clemson quarterback Woodrow Dantzler will have ankle surgery

after Clemson's bowl game, Head Coach Tommy Bowden announced on Tuesday.

Dantzler is suffering from tendonitis, a problem that has allowed him to

play a little more than half of each of the last three games.

Dantzler originally suffered a bruised left lower leg in Clemson's

victory at North Carolina. He played the first half in the loss to Georgia

Tech, and three quarters at Florida State.

Despite the problem he should be able to play against South

Carolina on November 18 and in Clemson's bowl game. "Woody has had

problems with a tendon slipping across the ankle bone," said Head Trainer

Danny Poole. "He basically has tendonitis, an inflamation of the tendon,

and that is causing him the problem. We will do what we can to get him

through the last two games.

"We will hold him out of practice this week and see how he is next

week."

Dantzler had an MRI on Tuesday and the results confirmed the

findings of Clemson's medical staff.

Dantlzer has rushed for 867 yards this season, an all-time record

for a Clemson quarterback, but has gained just 48 yards in 31 carries over

the last three games. He has 1506 passing yards for the season, but

just 235 over the last three games.

Clemson has an open date this Saturday, its first open date of the

season.
