The United Football League is a professional football league that helps prepare players for the opportunity to play in the National Football League. Cumbie played for the Tigers between 2006 and 2009. He was ninth on the Clemson team in tackles in 2009 when he had 53, including 4.5 for loss and 2.5 sacks. He played in 13 games that year, helping the Tigers to the Atlantic Division ACC Championship. His top game came against South Carolina in 2009 when he had a career high nine tackles. He averaged 28 plays per game that year.

Cumbie, a Parade All-American out of high school, played in 36 games over his career with three starts. He finished with 93 tackles, including 52 first hits. He had 29 tackles in 2007, his sophomore year, when he helped the Tigers to a final top 25 season. He played in just one game in 2008 due to injury. He appeared in nine games as a first-year freshman in 2006 and had eight tackles in nine games.
