Carson to Serve as Sideline Reporter on Clemson Radio Network |
CLEMSON -- Former Clemson linebacker Chad Carson will serve as the sideline reporter on Tiger football radio broadcasts in 2004, David Hubbard, manager of Clemson Tiger Sports Properties announced Friday. Carson served in this role for the final 2003 regular season game at South Carolina and for the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl contest against Tennessee.
"We reviewed the tapes of all of our sideline reporters from last year and they all did an outstanding job," said Hubbard. "We appreciate the preparation and effort they all made in our unique situation during the 2003 season. "Chad did an outstanding job in the last two games. As is the case with Will Merritt and his contributions in the booth as color commentator, Chad knows Coach Tommy Bowden's system and can provide insight during the broadcast, especially from the defensive standpoint. He also has a familiarity with the coaches, players and staff on the sideline. He will be an excellent addition to our broadcast team." Earlier this summer Tiger Sports Properties announced Pete Yanity will provide the play-by-play commentary and Will Merritt will provide the color commentary for Clemson radio broadcasts this year. The first game is September 4 against Wake Forest in Death Valley. Carson was a four-year letterman and three-year starter at Clemson between 1998-01. He was a three-time Academic All-American, joining classmate Kyle Young as the only three-time selections in Clemson history. The only Division I football player to be a finalist for a Rhodes Scholarship in 2001, Carson was a recipient of a Weaver-James-Corrigan Scholarship from the Atlantic Coast Conference that same year. On the field, Carson finished his career with 448 tackles, fifth in Clemson history. He started all 36 games played from 1999-01 and later played in the 2002 East-West Shrine Game. He was a second-team All-ACC selection in 2001 when he led the Tigers in tackles with 137. He ranked fourth in the nation in tackles as a junior in 2000 when he helped Clemson to a #15 final ranking. Carson graduated from Clemson in May of 2002 with a degree in biological sciences. He is currently working in real estate with a local company called Blue Ridge Home Buyers. The company purchases houses in the Pickens County area, makes repairs, and then provides affordable housing through easy qualifying programs.
