Clemson Baseball Moves Up in Polls |
CLEMSON, SC -- The Clemson baseball team moved up from 14th to 11th in the
Baseball Weekly/ESPN coaches poll that was released Monday. The Tigers remained 10th in the Collegiate Baseball poll and 14th in the Baseball America poll. Clemson split two games with Georgia Southern last week and then swept three games at Maryland over the weekend to open ACC play 3-0. The Tigers continue its eight-game road trip Tuesday and Wednesday with a pair of 7:00 PM games at Old Dominion before closing out the 10-day trip with three games at Wake Forest on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Old Dominion is not ranked in this week's polls, but the Demon Deacons are ranked as high as 20th (by Baseball America and Baseball Weekly/ESPN. Wake Forest is ranked 24th by Collegiate Baseball. Clemson's Matt Henrie Named ACC Pitcher of the Week Honors
Wake Forest's Sullivan and Virginia's Wyant share Player of the Week Honors
GREENSBORO, NC - Clemson sophomore right-handed pitcher Matt Henrie was
named ACC Pitcher of the Week while Wake Forest's Cory Sullivan and
Virginia's Hunter Wyant shared ACC Player of the Week honors.
Pitcher of the Week honors were claimed by Clemson right-hander Matt
Henrie. The sophomore, who hails from Jupiter, Fla., threw 8.1 innings
on the week in games against Maryland and Georgia Southern. Henrie
picked up his first win as a Clemson Tiger on Sunday against the Terps,
pitching six innings and allowing just three hits, no runs and striking
out five of the 25 batters he faced.
Sullivan, a senior outfielder earns a share of ACC Player of the Week
after leading the Deacs in games against Appalachian State, Virginia
Commonwealth and a three-game series at North Carolina. On the week,
the Pittsburgh, Pa., native was 11 of 21 with ten runs, nine RBI, three
doubles and two stolen bases. In the Demon Deacons' three wins over the
Tar Heels, Sullivan was 8 for 13 (.615) with seven runs and six RBI. He
also made his first career start on the mound (March 18) and picked up
the win while going 4 for 5 at the plate.
Wyant, a senior shortstop earns a share of ACC Player of the Week honors
after leading Virginia in a three-game series with Duke, a two-game
series with UNC Greensboro and a game with High Point. For the week,
the White Hall, Va., native notched 15 hits, 12 RBI and a.682 batting
average. He finished the week with 22 at-bats as well as contributing
11 runs, three doubles, four triples and a home run. Wyant also became
the first player in Virginia history to hit for the cycle when he was 4
of 5 with three runs, five RBI, a double, triple and homerun against
High Point.
