Elite linebacker out of Georgia gets the Clemson offer he wanted |
Sergio Allen lives in Georgia and has picked up a bevy of SEC offers, but the offer he really wanted was from Clemson. He got that offer on a visit Monday.
The Fort Valley (GA) Peach County 2020 4-star linebacker visited campus with his high school teammates Monday, and while he was there he was extended an offer by defensive line coach and area recruiter Todd Bates. Allen’s other 10 offers include Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Georgia Tech, LSU, Michigan, Ole Miss, Penn State, South Carolina and Vanderbilt. Monday’s visit wasn’t his first trip to Clemson – Allen competed at head coach Dabo Swinney’s high school camp last summer and returned to Clemson for the Auburn game in September. Monday’s visit was more about letting his teammates see the campus. “I’ve been there a lot, but I wanted my teammates to see what Clemson was all about,” Allen told TigerNet. “We toured the new facility and got to see the academic side of things. It was fun just being around them and letting them see Clemson.” It was on the visit that he received news of the offer. “They told me that they really like me and I had an offer,” he said. “This was really the offer I’ve been wanting. I love how Clemson plays defense, and getting to play for Coach (defensive coordinator Brent) Venables would be great. He puts a lot of guys in the NFL.” Allen is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 2 inside linebacker and No. 91 overall prospect in the 2020 class. As a sophomore last season, Allen totaled 104 tackles, including 15 tackles for loss and two sacks. He also logged seven quarterback hurries, one pass deflection, one fumble recovery and an interception. Allen said he doesn’t have a top group, but Clemson is right there at the top. “They are. I love Clemson and they will be right there at the top for me,” he said. “I just want to take visits to other schools and see what they have to offer. I have a long time before I have to make a decision and I want to make the right choice. “I’ve gotten a lot of offers and that puts a lot of pressure on me. I know I have to keep working hard and doing the right things.” He said he hopes to make a decision by his senior season.
