Swinney discusses going to NFL Draft with Lawson and Dodd

by - Assoc. Editor -

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney talked the media on Wednesday for the ACC Football Coaches Spring Media Teleconference and had the following comments about making the trip to the upcoming NFL Draft on April 28 to support Shaq Lawson and Kevin Dodd.

"It's great, it really is," Swinney said. "I've been fortunate that I've had the opportunity to go to the draft a few times, going with Spiller and went with Sammy and Vic, and Stephone was a first rounder but he wasn't at the draft, but both those guys got invited, so I'm going up there. I'm going to take Coach V with me and Coach Hobby, and it's a great moment to be a part of, because as coaches, you know where it started. I've watched Shaq grow up here. I've been here going on 14 years, so he was just a young person when I -- young nine, 10 year old or whatever when I got here, and watched him grow up here in Clemson, and then Kevin Dodd, from where he started to where he is now, it just never gets old seeing these guys reach their potential, and whether it's off the field and what they do career-wise or they have the ability to go play at the highest level. These are two great young men, and I'm really looking forward to being a part of a special moment."

Swinney does not have any inside information on when Lawson or Dodd will get picked but knows they will be successful with whatever team picks them.

"Their name is going to get called," Swinney said. "I have no idea when or where they're going, but their name will get called, and it's a life-changing moment for both of them, and both of them are prepared. That's what I have the most satisfaction with is I know that they're prepared. They have the tools that they need to go be successful on and off the field and represent their organizations the right way and continue to be committed to the excellence that they were here at Clemson."
