I'd prefer West Virginia to any of the schools on your list besides Cincinnati and UConn.

West Virginia brings slightly more to the table than Memphis or Rutgers.

West Virginia brings way more to the table than UCF or USF.

Navy can't compete in the ACC, so they are a horrible suggestion.

West Virginia would not be a bad pick up out of what is available. UCONN would be weak.

Cincinnati also would be a good pick up for what is also available. Would love to see Penn State but we all know that is a pipe dream.

You all laugh at Rutgers, on the field yes not that great but does bring in the NJ TV market, but I don't see us getting them to leave the BIG10. And with Schiano back as their head coach watch how they get better and better each year. NJ has tons of football talent and the player like to play for him. Plus he can recruit. Look what he did the first time there, he won't leave Rutgers again either until he retires. While people think Rutgers would not be a good get, and I used to think that way also being from NJ a long time ago, Rutgers would be a good addition now.

I don't think Rutgers would be bad, but I think UConn adds more to the table.

I perceive UConn having a larger fan base than Rutgers. I also like UConn's basketball tradition.

They would obviously need to significantly improve their football, but as a large state school with no notable football programs in the region other than BC and Syracuse, their ceiling is high.

Again, UConn isn't ideal, but I'd prefer them over most of the schools mentioned in these discussions.

College Football fans ACC versus the SEC

Aug 4, 2021, 12:39 PM
Reply

The ACC does not have the fan viewership numbers or fans going to the stadiums like the SEC does that is because mostly our larger TV markets are North East and those states are not college sport fans mostly, they mainly love the NFL and Hockey. The ACC doesn't have to expand we just need better fan viewership from the northern schools and better quality team play, that would help the most with revenue not adding some more schools with no fan investment. If you basically flipped the conferences around and the SEC had the same school from the northeast nothing would be any different far as the quality of play. Money does alot but one thing it doesn't do is win goes by itself. If the ACC wants to best the SEC you got to but better product on the field week in and week out and be willing to invest more into your sports programs at your school. Clemson has used Dabo's all in literally in there sports programs and that why Clemson has improved greatly over the last decade.

in terms of money (which is the sole reason for expansion)

Now they aren’t “ACC material” from an academic standpoint but Clements came from WV so they can’t all be bad.

when it comes to academics but does it really have any impact on the decision making anymore? At this point TV revenue is so massive nothing else really matters. Add in NIL, the portal and accelerated learning...the traditional 4 year athlete model doesn't really exist on a broad scale much anymore. Whether a D-1 school is ranked 155 or 5th, it makes zero difference for the average fan watching a football game.

It would seem that you offer nothing of substance if this is your stance. WVA offers passion which is something sorely lacking in ACC football. They hate Pitt and VT who also hates them. Its must see tv when they play. Unlike the tobacco road teams they give a crap about football.

In terms of their academics, their charter is to provide a college education for folks in a very poor area. They are not about the high brow academics of UVA or Duke as they simply want to educate people to make life better in their state. I for one salute this mission and wonder why its an issue for so many people?

Yes you guys got the better off him. However not as bad as when Geno Smith and Tavon Austin hung 70 on you. It's 1-1 now. Would love to see it become a yearly thing. You got to agree it would be much more fun than playing Wake Forest and Duke.

Notre Dame isn't joining a conference full time IMO. Add WVU and one other and renegotiate the TV contract. It's already undervalued. As far as holding onto to something that's not what I'm doing. I'm pointing out the fact our Football Teams have played twice. 1-1. Our Basketball teams have played 5 times. WVU leads 4-1. WVU has played for a NC. They have a young Head Coach that is building the Program like Dabo did. They have a fan base that supports them. So we agree they would be better than a lot of your current members. If this stays at a 4x16 conference model then WVU would help the ACC Conference. If the SEC keeps expanding you guys are probably moving there and then this doesn't matter. I'm still learning how the format on this site works so some of my comments were directed at the wrong posters.

Who knows how all this will shake out. I'd rather we not go to the $EC but if the ACC is going to sink I'd rather we not be on that ship.

Let's be honest, the ACC is in a tough spot. Great if Penn State and ND would join the conference. Probably not going to happen. What's left to bring more TV money to the conference. Does WV, UCF or Cincinnati or whoever bring more TV money? Does the ACC try to merge with another conference? Does Clemson try to move to the SEC? Does the ACC get better by bringing in some of the Big 12 teams? Tough questions, critical times for the ACC and everyone but the SEC. NIL has changed everything, how much money can you pay your players? The players going forward are being paid. Maybe not directly but how much money they get will effect recruiting.

The path is to offer ESPN something they don't have... like sec did with Texas and OU. And that is with Penn St. I dont know if PennSt has any interest, BUT ESPN might pony up to pull them from fox and the B1G.
You go to ESPN and say "what would our TV contract look like, per team, with ND and PennSt.
You offer PennSt and ND some other perks to make them feel special along with an eye popping number and you see if they bite.
WVU would be the 2nd tier behind Penn St along with Okla St maybe of who would be #16.
