Just make sure it is the best Natural Grass Field in the USA!
There is no reason we should not have the best football field surface in the country, just like The Master's has the best grass in the world on a golf course!
Great to use it when we beat LSU!
Go Tigers!

As long as we're winning, I wouldn't care if our field looked like a plowed-up cotton field!!!

While you are redoing, how about putting the crown back at the center of the field.

Why would anyone want to see that again? Certainly not quarterbacks and receivers. Relic of the past like leather helmets.

"Ready Play Natural Grass" ......Pure T BS

I had to laugh when I read the description of the grass that is being installed in Death Valley. First it tells nothing about the variety of grass that is being installed, which I assume is Hybrid Bermuda ..... maybe T-419, but more likely Tahoma 31, or Latitude 36, maybe TifTuff (which a lot of golf course superintendents like now). The description of how it is grown (not a new concept) indicates that the 2" mat is comprised of roots and probably some thatch. In healthy grass you do not want all of the roots toward the top of the plant. You want them down in the soil ......... in other words you want it deeply rooted. You want to control the amount of thatch on the top portion of the profile to keep the grass healthy. Ultimately we have all summer to grow in the grass, so it does not make any sense to replace it with sod that sounds like it is suited for bringing in a week or two before playing on it.
Can't wait to hear more about this magic grass!

Wasn’t it about a decade ago after they put the new irrigation system in they implemented the sprigs? They boosted then that was the best method to have sod. Having the best wasn’t the best apparently. Do they puncture the plastic in order to use our so called state of the art drainage system? What do I know..

There are a lot of things that were the best of the best a decade ago that are second rate now.
I’m thinking this system allows them to replace worn areas during the season instead of just painting the dirt green.

The grass is removed from the plastic before laying. Quite often the sod that is installed is “washed sod” in which after the sod is grown and harvested the growing medium (dirt) is washed from the roots. The purpose of that is because you want the grass to grown on the soil you put it down on which is probably not the same soil as it was grown on. Basically similar to growing it on plastic where you re putting the roots/rhizomes directly on the medium you want the grass to grow on. The last thing you want to do is to lay sod that may have been grown in a heavier soil, or clay, onto an expensive soil mix consisting mostly of sand and peat moss.

Also the farthest east I have seen this grass used is in Las Vegas. Not sure if it has a track record on the east coast or in the south.

Just read that the variety of Bermuda is “NorthBridge” …… a variety that has been around for a few years, maybe 10 or so, and will do fine it South Carolina. It is a little more cold hardy, like Latitude 36 and Tacoma 31, both of which I like better, so it should be fine here. The name they have given it “Ready Play Natural Grass”, is really just a marketing ploy for producers and seller so they can mark up the price. NorthBridge sprigs or washed sod would work equally as well if planted early summer.

If I were Clemson, I'd raise season ticket prices to offset the costs of this.***

I just want to know if it favors faster players , slower players or isn't a factor.
We've got some fast horses in the stable that are ready to be cut loose.

NorthBridge is a great grass and the field should be perfect by August.

I realize that I played baseball at Clemson long ago, but this article reminds me that Herman McGee, Clemson legendary trainer, once commented to a group of us complaining about playing field conditions that "Clemson is the only Agricultural College in the country that can't even grow grass." And evidently Evidently, they still can't grow it themselves.

They named all those NFL stadiums where it is used. Why not name some college football stadiums in the South that do?

I hope they leave the drainage system in place that helps the field stay dry so well. Also, I hope the plastic the grass is on top of will not cause waster to build up. I've seen too many fields that allow water to puddle up and become a mud pit.
