South Carolina - Georgia CWP reciprocity

Jul 11, 2016, 10:44 AM

this is a month or so old, but I am just learning this - very good news for carry permit holders in these 2 states. Up until now, I was never "legal" to carry in Georgia

"The State of South Carolina has determined that it will honor Georgia firearms permits. Therefore, effective immediately, Georgia recognizes firearms permits issued by South Carolina," the spokesperson says.

GREENVILLE S.C. (WSPA) – Lawmakers passed a bill this week that recognizes Georgia’s CWP licenses in South Carolina. Governor Nikki Haley signed the bill Friday.

The bill allows Georgia gun owners with CWP licenses to be able to carry their concealed weapons across state lines without a South Carolina a license, under certain circumstances.

like driving to Tennessee or Florida.

It all stemmed from in SC you have to take a shooting test and safety course, but in Ga you didn't, so SC would never recognize a Ga license. So for spite, Ga wouldn't recognize an SC license.

the license should be recognized nation wide just like a driver's license.

from their county probate court.

SC requires background check and fingerprints to SLED, plus passing a safety course and shooting test.

course, but it's in your best interest to find a GOOD instructor that is going to drill into just what the responsibilities of the permit are. I know more than a couple of folks around Rock Hill that took halfass courses and got their permit but don't have a clue about what the legalities actually are. SLED cracked down on those kind of instructors there for a while, but it's easy once again to find someone that will basically give you zero instruction, give you the answers to the test, and even fudge the shooting test. It scares me to think that some of the dolts I know around here have permits.

And anyone from Georgia didn't even need to cheat.

That's scary as well.

No, SC legislatively recongnized GA license. GA has a

statute that says if a state recognized theirs then they will recognize ours.

GA's dont meet the CWP requirements for reciprocity by SLED so it had to be done by the legislature.

Im glad they finally did it.
