Jounge advice needed.
Sep 4, 2014, 8:48 AM
|
|
My 8 year old RayBan sunglasses were lost at sea this past weekend. My wife was not upset about me losing what she considered "dated" eyewear.
I'm looking for Jounge consensus on what to buy that will meet Shevillain's style expectations and the best and cheapest place to buy it. TIA in advance.

Update, possibly rescinding my recommendation
Sep 5, 2014, 11:49 AM
[ in reply to I recently picked up a pair of polarized SPY Frazier's ] |
|
I grabbed the SPY's before i left home a little while ago, and noticed that the matte 'finish' on the inside of the arms is starting to 'wrinkle', something that happened to my el cheapo berkleys from walmart, but after several months if not a year.
I've had these for 2 months, and wear actual glasses 80% of the time, so these get used fairly minimally...
I'll be causing a bit of a ruckus w/ SPY later on and see what they can do for me

The thing I have to wonder...

is that with the myriad options available for sunglasses, and the consideration of weighing performance against fashion against cost...have you not considered stabbing yourself in each eye with a rusty fork, virtually eliminating the need for the entire entire mentally taxing exercise?

I've only ever had two pair, one lasted 6 years until they were taken (too soon) by the river. Current pair is on year # 5, with no signs of slowing down. Plus, there's that sweat deal where you can send them back after awhile and basically get a new pair for like $50.

YEAH BOY, I GOT THAT BACK END SQUATTIN' TOO!
I've had two pair of Costa's in my life, the first pair lasted 6 years before they were lost to the river. I've had my current pair for five years now, and they're still in great shape. Figure I'll send them back one day and do the deal where you get a new pair for like $50.
Costa's cannot be beat.

I will say, that I recently went thru a several year phase
Sep 4, 2014, 10:00 AM
|
|
of some cheapo polarized Berkleys from Wal-Mart...again, that maple tortoise-shell 'color'. Less that $6 a pair. They fit great, held-up much better than you'd expect for $6, though NOT great....and O ##### were given when I'd break/lose a pair.
that phase ended 2 months ago when I bought the aforementioned SPY's. I'd recommend the Berkleys, but last weekend I put them back on to go mow the lawn, and I could immediately notice the drop-off in quality and fit from having work the SPY's for 1.5 months.
that said, GREAT use of $6, and I will always have a pair on hand (head?) for a knock-around option

Suncloud and Smith Optics are good, lower priced options.

And BTW, Smith Optics makes LL Bean's polarized sport glasses and they sell for a fraction of the cost of frat boy Maui Jims and Costas. I am on my third pair and love them.
