77 - Father (Ronald Williams) and Son (DeShawn Williams) Played 77 Clemson Games

Ronald Williams (Father):

Ronald Williams was a star RB for Clemson from 1990-1992. According to Sports-Reference.com, Ronald Williams registered the following statistics at Clemson:

Ronald Williams (1990-1992):
- 312 Rushes for 1,797 Yards (5.8 Average)
- 13 Rushing Touchdowns
- 6 Receptions for 64 Yards (10.7 Average)

Also of Note: Ronald Williams played in 24 Clemson games.

https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/ronald-williams-1.html

According to ClemsonTigers.com:

“Ronald Williams played at Clemson from 1990-92 and was the ACC Rookie-of-the-Year when he rushed for 941 yards, still the most in school history by a first-year freshman. He also earned All-ACC honors in 1990 and 1991.”

https://clemsontigers.com/clemson-family-man/

DeShawn Williams (Son):

DeShawn Williams was a star DL for Clemson from 2011-2014. According to Sports-Reference.com, DeShawn Williams registered the following statistics at Clemson:

DeShawn Williams (1990-1992):
- 86 Tackles (48 Solo and 38 Assisted)
- 15 Tackles for Loss

https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/deshawn-williams-2.html

According to DeShawn’s bio on ClemsonTigers.com:

“Emerged as one of the team’s top defensive linemen in 2012 and served as a co-starter in 2013 and 2014 … had 161 tackles, 16.5 tackles for loss, five sacks, 24 quarterback pressures, four pass breakups, one recovered fumble and two blocked kicks in 1,235 snaps over 53 games (17 starts) in his career … finished his career tied for fourth in school history in games.”

https://clemsontigers.com/sports/football/roster/deshawn-williams/

Between Ronald’s 24 Clemson games and DeShawn’s 53 games, the father-son duo played in a collective 77 Clemson games!

After Clemson for each:

- Ronald Williams
According to Wikipedia:
After Clemson, Ronald Williams spent one season (1993) with the Cincinnati Bengals. In 1995, he played one season in NFL Europe (Rhein Fire). He then played seven seasons (1996- 2002) in the Canadian Football League with the BC Lions, Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Hamilton Tiger-Cats, and Edmonton Eskimos.

- DeShawn Williams
According to Wikipedia:
From 2015 to 2017 DeShawn Williams played for the Cincinnati Bengals. In 2018, he played for the Denver Broncos, the Miami Dolphins, and the Indianapolis Colts. DeShawn Williams played for the Denver Broncos in 2019. The then played for the Calgary Stampeders in the CFL in 2020. Starting in Fall 2020, he then played for the Denver Broncos through 2022. He was with the Carolina Panthers in 2023. He is currently with the Buffalo Bills,

A Denver local television station reported the father-son relationship when DeShawn played for the Denver Broncos:

“Ronald Williams was once a star running back for Clemson, rushing for 941 yards and 8 touchdowns in just 11 games as a freshman for Ken Hatfield’s Tigers. But injuries curtailed his production as a sophomore and junior and after signing as an undrafted free agent with the Bengals, Ronald Williams wound up in the Canadian Football League.

Where he became a record-setting champion. Ronald Williams accumulated nearly 8,300 yards rushing and receiving and 78 touchdowns and was a three-time All Star and Grey Cup champion during his eight years there. DeShawn wound up at Clemson and the Bengals, too, playing on the other side of the ball.

"So it’s kind of, how did that happen?" DeShawn Williams said. "Watching VHS tapes of him when he was at Clemson in the 90s when Clemson had Brentson Buckner, Chester McGlocton and DeChane Cameron. That defense, whew, was amazing man. Watching him do what he do, I said I wanted to do that. And here I am now. It’s crazy. He’s coming to the game this week. It’s all lining up. It’s going to be a great day."

https://www.9news.com/article/sports/nfl/denver-broncos/mike-klis/broncos-defensive-end-deshawn-williams-follows-fathers-footsteps/73-21591c1a-d8a3-4cb6-aec3-d543160cd7e2

ClemsonTigers.com echoed the sentiment in describing DeShawn’s college decision process:

Williams grew up idolizing his father and some of his teammates, players like Wayne Simmons, Levon Kirkland, Ed McDaniel, Brentson Buckner, Chester McGlockton, DeChane Cameron and Terry Smith (late father of current Florida State linebacker Terrance Smith). Williams knew if he got the chance to be a Tiger, he would take the opportunity and run with it.

“I wanted to be just like them,” stated Williams.

So when it came time for Williams to visit colleges and attend camps, naturally he started at the big school down the road.

Interstate 77 is a 610.1 mile interstate highway in the eastern United States that runs from the south end at I-26 in Cayce, South Carolina to the north end at I-90 in Cleveland, Ohio, also going through North Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia. The 91.2 miles of I-77 in South Carolina travel from Cayce to the North Carolina/South Carolina state line between Rock Hill and Charlotte.

Congaree National Park is a 26,692-acre United States national park near the town of Eastover and 18 miles southeast of Columbia, South Carolina. It is South Carolina's only national park. With giant hardwood trees and tall pines, the park is a sanctuary for the largest old growth bottomland hardwood forest left in the United States. The Congaree River, a confluence of the Saluda and Broad rivers and a tributary to the Santee River and Lake Marion, flows through the park. 15,000 acres of the park were designated as a wilderness area in 1988, giving it more federal protection, and it became an Important Bird Area in 2001 with criteria for the conservation of bird populations. The park gained national park status in November of 2003, maybe to help the Columbia coots mistreated by the CU Tigers 63-17 that month.

I've been to Congaree National Park a few times. The thing to see there is in the summer when the fireflies flah in sequence. Mother nature is a beast!!!
When I was hiking along the Congaree River the other day, I was within a mile to where I-77 begins in Cayce, SC. There is a lot of history along the 3 rivers in Lexington and Richland counties.
