Clemson, SC—Former Clemson All-American Jonathan Byrd, and his son Jackson Byrd, who will be a freshman at Clemson in August, will be in the field for the Myrtle Beach Classic on the PGA Tour this weekend. The tournament will be played at the famed Dunes Club at Myrtle Beach, SC.

Jackson Byrd is a three-time AJGA (American Junior Golf Association) All-American, including a first-team selection in 2024. He is the number-two ranked junior golfer in the United States according to the AJGA. He also has extensive experience representing the United States in international competition. He was a member of the Junior Ryder Cup team in Italy in 2023, and the Junior President’s Cup team in Canada last year. He also competed in the Toyota Cup in Japan.

Jonathan Byrd was a three-time All-American at Clemson between 1997-2000. He is still in the top five in school history in rounds in the 60s (5th, 30), birdies (4th, 505), top 10 finishes (3rd, 26) and rounds at par or better (5th, 75).

Byrd was also a two-time first-team Academic All-American when he helped the Tigers to four straight top 10 finishes at the NCAA national tournament. He was inducted into the Clemson Athletic Hall of Fame in 2006, and the Clemson Ring of Honor in 2011.

Byrd is in his 23rd year on the PGA Tour and has won five tournaments over his career. He has played in 487 PGA Tour events, has 26 top five finishes and 46 top 10s. His eighth place finish at the 2003 Masters is still the best finish by a former Clemson golfer.

Both Byrds will be in the same wave on Thursday and Friday, but will not be in the same group. Jonathan Byrd will be paired with former South Carolina player Mike NeSmith and former Clemson golfer Carson Young. Their tee times are below.

Thursday
Jonathan Byrd, Off 10th Tee, 12;25 p.m. (paired with Mike NeSmith and Carson Young)
Jackson Byrd, Off 10th Tee, 12:58 p.m. (paired with Hayden Buckley and Pierceson Coody)

Friday
Jonathan Byrd, Off 1st Tee, 7:45 a.m. (paired with Mike NeSmith and Carson Young)
Jackson Byrd, Off 1st Tee, 8:18 a.m. (paired with Hayden Buckley and Pierceson Coody)

Maybe Jackson can make the cut. Have no idea what happened to Jonathan’s golf game. Guy has a beautiful golf swing.
