I like the new 14 team playoff proposal

3 auto bids from the BIG and SEC each. 2 auto bids from the ACC and Big 12. 4 at large bids.
While in the ACC, this is a pretty good path for us, we all know whomever draws the 3rd seed from the SEC and BIG that would be one of the easier games as both are very top heavy. I say go ahead and pass it and get it rolling ASAP.

This setup would have made a lot more sense in the old days, when you had smaller conferences and could play a round robin schedule.

With 2 auto bids we can schedule aggressively OOC and not worry about an early season loss. I’m all for replacing FAU and Charleston Southern at home vs an Alabama and Oregon, or whomever.

I disagree with it and don’t like it, but at least the bias will just be out in the open vs the farce they’ve been selling us for years, when they change the criteria year over year. “Best” or “most deserving”, etc.

Considering, I've been reading the B1G and SEC have been pushing for a 14 team playoff with 4 automatic bids from each conference. This is a little more reasonable.

That part is fine. My issue is having some convoluted tie breaker with 17 schools for the automatic bids. I'd rather have a smaller conference eith a full round robin, so it's clear cut who get those automatic bids.

TDP said this in a class I was in. They need(ed) 7 home games a year to be fiscally sound and the big games don’t cover for the 2.
He mentioned it’s hard to book home/aways against good teams inside a 3-4 year window too.
He also said they try to keep the revenue local-ish — Coastal, Furman, Citadel, SC State; and I like that — but I think they’ve since dropped that philosophy.

They're already discussing 20 teams, just open the field to all 119+ teams-it ceased being about finding who the best team is the moment they expanded from 4 teams. Anything more than 4 and the playoff becomes a game of chance introducing an incalculable amount new variables, many not yet known. CFP becomes a pool, whose purpose is to provide more tier 1 action for the sports gambling—

I have mixed feelings. I like that the ACC would get 2 auto bids, but am not in favor of automatic bids in general. This sets up BiG & SEC to automatically bring in more money. What if one of those conferences has some down years, but yet still gets the bids/money. BIG had not won a NC in 10 years before this year and several years it has been very top heavy with only 2 sometimes 3 really good teams.

That's how it is in all other sports. You conference/division champion may have a down year, but still gets into the tournament.
In regards to the money, it's already that way now. The conferences only get about $6 million for a team making the playoffs, vs. the P5 conference getting about $55 million each, even if nobody makes the playoffs.

First of all...we haven't even had one year of the 12 team playoff yet. It's probably something that should happen first before consideration of expansion, auto-bids, etc. The conference shifting is also not finished...and it makes sense for that to at least settle in before other things happen.
Although the SEC & BIG certainly expanded...the ACC & Big 12 are still "power conferences" until they get gutted further. Once that happens and we get closer to a "Power 2", then it makes sense for more auto bids the SEC & BIG. I understand that they already have more teams...but not sure they get more bids just because of that.
In the meantime,
I'd be for the SEC & BIG getting 3 auto bids only if they were shut out of at-large bids. Can't always have your cake and eat it too. I'm not convinced that the 3rd best team in either conference would be automatically "playoff worthy". I suppose we'll hear ad nauseum about how Penn St. should be in even though they lose to Ohio St/Michigan every year.
I'd be in favor for 2 auto bids from each of the 4 conferences in a 12 team format. And probably a clause that says "no more than 1 at large bid per conference". Then you don't have 6 sec teams or whatever ESPN tells us that they want.

Dumb.
No conference should get more teams in by name only.
Look at the ACC in basketball right now.

Even if this proposal is approved it will only be in place for a year or two.
We all know the stopping point will be the SEC and B1G having a playoff that involves only those two conferences. By 2030 if the ACC even exists, it will have ZERO teams eligible for the playoffs. (Unless the rest of the schools devise their own playoff system, like the lower levels of NCAA football do.

Take this in a heartbeat. Clemson would be in 8 out every 10 years at the worst. For everyone not liking the Big Ten as SEC getting more auto bids don’t understand where the power lies in college sports

The only hang up with this is we don't know what kind of format this bracket is going to have. With 14 schools in there, what they might end up doing is having 12 teams in the first round and only two teams getting the bye. If that happens, you're probably looking at the SEC and Big Ten Champions being the two that get the first round by and everybody else having to play in the first round.

And, if you are in the SEC or B1G you are better off finishing 2nd in your division and not going to the championship game. You get a week of rest and still get to host a first round game at your stadium.

How long before a B1G SEC team passes on the championship game? Hopefully there would be a rule that doing this would be a disqualifying event, but then does that give an advantage to the 3rd place team, who still gets the auto bid.
And what if a team, say SCAR, gets beat in the ESC Championship game 56-17? Could that knock them out of an auto bid?

Just them trying to push for dominance. Not sure I agree. Also, they could still get more teams in if in the top rankings. What if their 3rd place team is ranked lower. They shouldn't be guaranteed a spot just because they are in that conference IMHO

I don't like AQ's at all. Let's face it. Between the Big and the SEC there would be six or seven teams that would win the ACC if they were over there. I would like to see the top teams and not consider any conference.
