General etiquette question

My boat is parked at the Clemson marina so I generally fish the Seneca branch of Hartwell unless I'm feeling froggy and want to go full-throttle down lake and fish the big water.
But that can get expensive.
This time of year the Clemson rowing teams are out in force. And they can go line abreast and take up the space between the buoys.
So ... do you:
1. go outside the buoys and hope you don't hit something at speed while passing all the rowing boats which according to the rules are stand-on craft or 2. slow waaaay down and kinda putter along until you've passed all the rowing boats so as to not throw too much wake at them or 3. be grateful you have first-world problems like these

and proceed to #2. #1 is sketchy and could result in more than just a few extra minutes on the water.

and think how I'd like it if some fool in a fast boat came by and threw a wake over my bow.
But man. Sometimes it's like getting stuck behind one of those slow-moving wide load trailers on a two lane road.

lol-no doubt. You have the right mentality though. Just listing #3 tells me a lot about you.

she will give you the team practice schedule so you can plan around them. Their season doesn't wrap-up until mid to late May.

Safely blow past them at wide open throttle trimmed up as far as you can thus minimizing your wake.

sometimes up there if you're not very familiar with what may be lurking just below the surface.
Nevermind the unwelcome wave action on all those 3,000 pound double-decker docks.

5. Take a buddy, give him a canoe paddle, go by at 70mph with your buddy paddling.

and blow by the crew team, tipping them in your wake, this detering them from invading your fertile fishing grounds. I man has to eat. I would go full-on Somalian with an RPG if they come at you again.

Its been my experience as I lived on Lake Lanier near the Olympic rowing venue that the rowers enjoyed paddling through a large wake. I've noticed on several occasions as I passed them that they would get more animated, and many times turn their boats in my direction and paddle even harder to catch up to my wake. I guess paddling in the rougher water is good practice for them. Anyway it made me proud to be helping out our olympic hopefuls.

If you’re worrying about survivors of your wake, this is a clear sign that you need a bigger boat.
