Right now we are just struggling to work deals to pay our current players. Haven't shifted emphasis to portal acquisition yet. May get caught without 85 players at this rate. Sucks but is what it is from what I’m told at this point

Why not WR? We lack size on the boundary, and even more with Collins leaving. I understand the freshman coming in, but who knows how much they’ll contribute.

Here’s a hint - the portal didn’t cost us a single win this year.

Soo… a better o-line and receiving core wouldn’t have helped Clemson win anymore games this year. OK. I don’t want to go full Colorado on the portal but pretty sure everyone would agree 3-4 guys up front and catching passes wouldn’t have hurt. Also if you’re going to go with the ‘nobody that can throw it to them’ excuse, those guys are also available

I remember former Clemson players in the NFL being introduced at games as having donated so much money to IPTAY. Is anyone hitting up the current Clemson NFL players to donate to the collective?
Also, who at Clemson is going to force IPTAY to trim administrative costs? Clemson has a small donor base with a finite amount of money in place. IPTAY is still being run old school by employing too many people and blowing too much money. That group had a lot on a boondoggle to the ND game last season.

Plus, NIL isn’t just up to Clemson collectives. NIL is also from regional and national businesses/brands who sponsor NIL deals (e.g., Dr. Pepper and Bojangles for DJU, Rhodesian for Cade, etc.).
Also, we should be able to stand out above many other teams since we not only do well with NIL, but also have great facilities, recent championships, and many players in the NFL.
If all this, plus our culture and recruiting skills of our coaches, isn’t resulting in outstanding talent, then we don’t have the right culture or coaches in place. I don’t think that’s the case since we have done well with this so far.

I know some of you badly want to believe that we just can’t compete on NIL, because it gives you an automatic excuse when we lose a recruit or lose a game to a team who used the portal. But it isn’t true.

Or because even the numbers provided in your link make zero sense. The 2 listed Bama players made more money if you divided their amounts by 85 than what the source says the entire team made. The listed Ohio State players also made more than what the source says the entire Ohio State team made. How can anyone possibly take their numbers serious?

It’s hard for me to trust the accuracy of that information. For instance, it says the average Bama player was making $52,000. If you were to multiply that average by 85 players you’d have a total of $4.42 million for the team. The source says that Bryce Young was making $3.2 million and Williams was making $1.6 million. Well, those 2 players alone would be making more than the entire team so that already makes no sense.

I’ve been told the basketball program has a few boosters that have really stepped up. It’s a much smaller roster to work the deals.

I don’t think it has to sneak up on the coaches for it to go down like this. Let’s say another job wants to triple your salary. Your boss knowing a few months in advance doesn’t really help him keep you if his budget doesn’t allow him to come close to matching what the other company is offering.

But if that were the case, I would assume they’d cut bait and decide to look in the portal for a replacement. There’s a finite amount of money and scholarships to go around for every school, which is why half these kids end up left out in the cold. Coaches are going to need to manage a roster like an NFL GM with a salary cap.

In speaking last summer to someone close to the NIL situation, there was similar chaos getting deals renewed for current players. The players have come to expect auto renewals, but the booster money has to be there. Right now we don’t have a predictable enough funding process. Notice 110 Society wants to generate revenue from autographed items and meet & greets, but that’s not the solid committed booster money they need. To sign deals in advance of money arriving Clemson has got to get to a predictable funding method like how IPTAY fund raising works. We aren’t there yet.

So Dear Old Clemson and Tiger Impact are closing down. Honoring current contracts, so all new stuff is now relying on 110 Society to be up and running. I think we have our answer that it is not fully capable yet. Folks you have to realize the Branding Bldg is not doing the independent contractor type of intent. The athletes are not going out making their own deals for the most part. For Football atleast, the players have their agents and go to the NIL money trough which is now 110 Society. A few like Shipley have been aggressive and found willing businesses and organizations, but he’s more the exception than the rule.
