Seriously? How about some perspective & context?
Sep 29, 2013, 7:22 PM

Dabo took over a team 9-4 the year before that had been a perennial under achiever. His second full season with tons of talent and an easy schedule he had a losing season.
Did Saban have to fire his OC & DC within the first 3 years to save his job?
Come on guys. It's nonsense like this that makes people from outside Tiger Nation that visit TNET think our fan base is delusional.

Just curious. Your posts are about as positive about the Clemson Tigers as if they are coming from an LSU Tiger fan or maybe Missouri? Just posting facts.

what a ####### post and nothing more than your opinion.
Dabo did not fire his OC and DC to save his job - he fired them because he wanted hire better ones and become #3 someday - and that day is today.
You have coot logic IMO. nothing you said made logical sense to me. I guess you just don't keep up with TIGER sports.

Did Saban have an austerity budget that prevented him from hiring a quality staff when he took over because of an idiotic contract extension for the former under-achieving coach? Get real! Dabo had constraints that Saban probably didn't have, but the point is that both have been successful through that stage of their careers. Will Dabo be as successful as Saban? It's hard to say, but how successful could Dabo be if he had the resources, the conference affiliation, the budget, the program's rich history and the network hype that Saban has been the beneficiary of? One can speculate, but nobody knows. My bet is if Dabo can get it done at Clemson, he would certainly be able to get it done at AL.

I agree, and I'm glad he did. Barker should have seen the benefit we receive from having a stellar football program, as well as the other sports programs, but that doesn't change my points about Dabo being successful even given the obstacles dealt him.

I believe it is correct that Barker sees the football program and athletices in general as secondary, but you are ignoring the fact that the money allocated to the football program was not a bottomless pit, and TB had to be paid. TD Phillips had a budget, and he worked within it. Dabo had severe constraints, so severe, in fact, that he even used some of his own salary to pay assistants. Saban didn't have that to deal with, I'd bet, but believe what you wish. If you think Dabo has done poorly or that he is a failure or just mediocre, go right ahead. Dabo will just keep plodding, methodically along achieving success.

have the money. TB was paid over several years. The new ESPN contract doubled our money and IPTAY is sitting on over $40 million. Money is not, nor has ever been, part of the problem at Clemson. Coaching and desire/willingness to win from those at the top have been our problem.

By this statement, I can tell you for a FACT, not opinion, that you don't know what you are talking about.
I can tell you that when TDP took over as AD, there was about 2 million in the bank and that was it.
TDP had to build back the funds of IPTAY. People thought that IPTAY was an endless supply of money, but that just wasn't the case. At the same time, there are other sports other than football that has to be taken care of.
It takes TIME to rebuild EVERYTHING which includes: coaches and salaries, facilities, upgrades, you name it.
It is being done now! Just be glad.

accurate:
He took over a team that started the season in the top 10 and was 3-3, won 4 of the next 7, then the next year did something his predecessor couldn't do in 10 years: win his division.
Then he did another thing his predecessor couldn't do: fire dead weight. Then he won the ACC, something his 2 predecessors didn't do.
No one is saying Dabo inherited a bare cupboard but if you can't see this difference between the program now and when he started, you're the delusional one.

You are so right on this one, and he was handed program saddled with financial obligations that had to be met, and the funds weren't unlimited. Don't know why some can't just accept that Dabo has done a Yeoman's job of straightening out a program with some pretty big problems.

First, He took over a team half way into a season that was "loaded with talent" as well that TB couldn't beat Wake with.
Secondly, I find it funny that you say "perennial underachiever," which of course refers to the TB years, yet now we are more than likely going to win double digit games for the second year in a row as well as being the overwhelming favorite to win our second conference championship in three years.
And finally, yes it is "nonsense like this," which I'm going to take as a reference to your own post that makes people think we are delusional.

Why do some people not seem to understand that all coaches aren't cut from the same cloth
Sep 29, 2013, 8:40 PM

Some are great offensive or defensive minds that have no business being a leader of a school's football program. Look at some of the greatest college football programs across the country and you will see that the best always share these two traits. 1. They acquire talent, staff and student 2. They develop talent and instill discipline
Dabo is beginning to fit into this catagory with the best of them.

Longer than all but 5-6 other programs. Probably paid less than the coaches at most of them. So please tell me who we should have hired to take a position that no top ten coach would have wanted.
