I mostly stay on the main boards, but occasionally come lurk on the lounge. I'm a December 2012 grad with a BS in financial management and minor in mathematics here. I have a job offer in the financial planning industry, but it's pretty much all commission, no real benefits, and honestly I'm not really that interested in the line of work. With that said, I don't really know what I am interested in. I consider myself a pretty intelligent person with a mind made for analytical thinking. Any suggestions.

Career advice, if you want to work in finance get to

Charlotte. Plenty of opportunities here with really good companies like TIAA-CREF that are hiring right now, which TC is a company with decent starting salaries and great benefits. Going into financial planning on all commissions and lousy benefits is a tough road, especially if you don't already have a potential book of business.

And if you have a book full of business, along with a degree in finance and mathmatics....start your own company. If you are going to all the risk and liabities(no benefits, no pay without sales) you may as well reap all the profit too.

I've had several friends of friends from Clemson try to get me to buy insurance through them. They will stalk you until you tell them to fock off.

Meh. There's always graduate school. I did it twice.

No regrets other than taking longer than most to really get my career going.
Truth is, these days, most folks will have 3-4 careers with periods of retraining in between.
You could take the job, get some experience, then do something else or go back to school. Or you could go straight to grad school. Or you could start a company.
My only advice - avoid debt while you're doing it.

I would try and get the job first and get the degree later

Especially if you are going to be paying for school...the first job is tough because in your 20's work experience will trump education, so you want to try and get the work experience on your resume as soon as you can.
I got a job out of undergrad and did the night and weekend thing later on...sucks but I was glad I chose that route.

route out of college...it's pretty horrible work and he got paid absolutely nothing and quit right before he was going to get canned. He also had to deal with the embarrassment of hitting up friends and relatives to try and keep his job.
Obviously some companies are more reputable than others, but it was pretty obvious the M.O. of his company was to hire a ton of kids and hope a few pan out

As long as you keep cutting the grass and getting your mom to cook, you can stay here in our basement. We'd prefer you stay there anyways so we can keep an eye on you. We've never told you this, but we don't think you fit in with society and you probably won't do very well. Yes you went to Clemson, but your cousin Ronnie kept a real good eye on you.
You just play your video games and stay off this internet, you hear?
