Other top schools churn the bottom third of their lineup we do not. You can argue all day about whether thats the right way to treat players, but you cannot argue that it's not a competitive advantage that others have over us.

Right. So tired of his pressers don't listen. Just read article. Is there something in his contract about graduating players or does he get paid to win football games. It's great to graduate players but he's doing that at a higher level than what he's getting paid for.

That is not why we are losing ground. Kicking the low performers off the team? They usually quit!

Bad coaching (OC), previous (DC), and lack of motivation. The talent is on the team and on the field.
We will not get 5 Stars like we used to, because we are not competitive bidding on them!!
Big schools like Texas, Texas A&M, Ohio State, etc.... have a lot more money to waste on 5 Star busts!

We are competitive with NIL, and Dabo is looking for some Portal prospects now.
Clemson cannot afford to waste money like some of these schools (Texas A&M, Penn State...)
We will have to build with solid 4 Stars and occasional 5 Star prospects.
But, we can put the best coaches on Dabo's staff, which has gone downhill since 2019....

Go Tigers, beat Furman and the coots!!

I, for one, am glad that Dabo wants to see these kids graduate and to be able to do something beyond the football field. Every good player is not gonna make it in the NFL and needs to know how to survive. It wasn't too long ago that when someone fizzled out of the NFL or left school early and didn't get drafted, that we would question what would they do with their life now that they left school. Dabo wants to ensure they have every option available and as parents you should be happy to have a coach that would care about his players....your children and their ability to make it after athletics. If you don't like that, then make sure your child goes to a school where they don't care about education and when he or she can't make the starting roster and gets cut, don't cry and say the coach was wrong. That's what you asked for.

I disagree with Dabo on a lot, but for this he is dead on. The one caveat would be walk on players if the still exist. When Dabo gives a walk on a scholarship because we didn't fill every spot, that young man should be told that scholarship is a bonus for his hard work but not a permanent thing. If scholarships are being expanded to 105 and walk ons cut out, then anyone given a scholarship just to fill the quota should be told that it is temporary. If the young man knows this up front, then I think they would be grateful, and if not they can just say no thanks.

One reason that we have less kids leave is that Dabo's loyalty is reciprocated. If we are not limiting ourselves for several years when we pass out unused scholarships, then we won't lose anything in the long run by standing by a few players who are injured or don't pan out.

Clemson rarely loses impactful players. Andrew Mukuba and Beaux Collins are really the only 2 guys.

Dabo is really good at retaining players. But that also means we have more than a dozen players on the roster that will be on scholarship for 3-5 years without ever contributing in a meaningful way.

Its admirable, but when you combine paying kids $400K who hardly contribute and wont pay going rate for HS 5 stars....then thats an issue. We are losing ground to UGA, OSU, etc...... I know some are OK with that---not me. The level of $$$, staffing and infrastructure support isn't where it is to have these results. What others aren't talking abt is this is very poor timing with conference expansion

But the thing is this: If we had lost Friday night, no way he would be making this statement. He knows changes need to be made, but these wins make him think he should stick with his ideas. The NC teams wouldve blown that LOU team out.

Yes. So was Boise State and SMU.

Neither of us had legit shots at winning a national title.

Clemson got in because we only played 3 good teams during the regular season. We beat 9 bad teams to make the ACCCG. Then had a miracle kick return and field goal to beat SMU and punch our ticket in. But we finished 1-4 against good teams last year. I'm not going to pretend that Clemson was in a position to win a national title last year.

I agree with Dabo in principle but when something happens and we are giving a young man a scholarship to fill a spot it shouldn't be a permanent thing. If it is a use it or lose it situation that should not be treated the same way as our primary recruits. If Dabo was to let certain young men know that they would be competing to keep the scholarship ahead of time, how could they hold it against him.

Just because Dabo said we will keep them on scholarship doesn’t mean they will stay. If a player makes zero NIL money being a true stringer here, how do you know they won’t leave on their own to make some money on another team. I expect at least two running backs to leave after this year in addition to Randall graduating.

My guess is he’ll pull the NIL money from the players who aren’t measuring up, and still require them to meet all the player responsibilities in terms of practice, working out etc. Those players will leave on their own.

Uhm IF A Scholarship Player Does Not Measure Up...Isn't That What The Transfer Portal "IS" About🤔
I'm Good With That Process... But I And A Lot Of TigerNation R Not Good With Paying A Yet To Graduate QB $3M/Year Who Has Lost 12 Total Games...3 Opening Day Losses...And Way Too Many Losses In A 3 Year Span In...

Competitive disadvantage or not - the day Clemson starts actively cutting scholarships of a player who shows up on time every day, lifts weights and works out as asked, gives 100%, etc. is the day I hang up my orange. Being honest with a guy (i.e. "Jimmy, you ain't likely to ever see the field here") is ok, but forcing him out if he wants to stay and give 100% just don't sit right with me.

Call me what you will. I'll call Dabo's stance integrity and class.

This isn’t a rec soccer league. This is a multi-million dollar program lead by a head coach that’s paid $11 million a year. If a guy shows up and works hard but isn’t good enough, tough ####. Morals don’t get your wins. This isn’t the 1980s

He would never make it as a manager in the real world.

Good thing he is coaching college football then. Couldn’t get much farther from the real world.

I guess this is a way of telling Clemson fans that 9-3, 8-4, 7-5 seasons will be the norm. Once in a while an 11-1 season may take place. Gone are the days of seeing a run like Clemson had from 2015-2021.

It sounds nice and empathetic on paper, but in reality it isn’t feasible - and it comes at a huge cost to others.

Scholarships are one year contracts. Players are free to go somewhere after a year, and schools are too. It’s bad business for us to view them as four year contracts from our perspective, especially since players don’t view them the same way.

First off, Dabo doesn't sign players for a season; He signs them for life. That's the commitment he makes to them and the commitment they make to Clemson. It's called justice. A man keeps his promise even when others don't.

You'd be a lot happier if you chose a team to back which had a head coach as equally morally corrupt as are you. Face the fact that Dabo is not going to be less than he is to please the likes of those who throw ethics out the window and lie to recruits.

Lol meanwhile, it’s the fans who are getting screwed paying more for IPTAY memberships and tickets prices to watch a bad football team. Dabo can sit on his self-righteous throne claiming how ethical he is, making millions, and his average players can be average for 4-5 years getting paid and receiving a free ride. Cult on tho….

They’re plenty of ways to cut a player without “cutting” him. When you start telling him that he’s probably not gonna start here and there’s some D2 schools that you will undoubtedly start at and have significant playing time. That’s cutting him with extra sugar and a cherry on top as you go out the door crying but eating your ice cream!

In my mind, this is a main reason I am glad Dabo is still our coach. A scholarship offer is a commitment from Clemson, and as long as the player does what is required, honor that commitment. As he said, some may not develop into the player you hoped for. They can still contribute to the team and culture or in today’s world they can opt to transfer to a more suitable school.
