Other top schools churn the bottom third of their lineup we do not. You can argue all day about whether thats the right way to treat players, but you cannot argue that it's not a competitive advantage that others have over us.

If we are supposed to be preparing these young men for the real world, they need to understand the realities of a meritocracy. No one is going to hold their hand when they leave the orange bubble.

Its a common phrase coined by the NFL its not literal
1
Nov 18, 2025, 2:58 PM
|
|
It describes how NFL GMs seek to manage their rosters in the off-season. They analyze the bottom portion of their rosters to look for ways to get better.
It's not literal Just like how: No one who has touched the rock has ever given 110% There is no ends of the world to walk to The sky is never really the limit
Can you point out to me someone in the top 10 who has never sent a player who can't play packing?

How has that changed?
SEC teams have always run off 1/3rd of their roster.
Remember all the years we took 12 recruits while Georgia was taking 30 every year?

Its a whole lot easier now to run off players with the portal; the famous Saban

Medical retirement is barely even a thing anymore. Rick Neuhesal used to say it aint the players you dont get that kill you its the ones you do who can't play. That's not a problem anymore for any but us.

Admirable.
I just don't believe we can win a national title with this mentality.
But we can compete in the ACC. So perhaps it's best we stay in this conference.

The game has changed, and Dabo will have to change with it. Pointing out what he accomplished under the old rules doesn't mean he can continue his ways and not fall behind.

It would seem as these players come in from high school, we develop them (??), and then they get a big or bigger NIL deal and transfer…..would that not lower graduation rates? So as nice as it sounds that Dabo says until graduation we do us part, there is no commitment toward graduation by the better players. And as time goes on that will get worse and worse.

Clemson rarely loses impactful players. Andrew Mukuba and Beaux Collins are really the only 2 guys.
Dabo is really good at retaining players. But that also means we have more than a dozen players on the roster that will be on scholarship for 3-5 years without ever contributing in a meaningful way.

Mukuba told everyone publicly why he left... he said he wasn't getting developed at Clemson. Which is a massive issue if we aren't portaling and aren't cutting.

Pride playing well at MIZZ.
Its admirable, but when you combine paying kids $400K who hardly contribute and wont pay going rate for HS 5 stars....then thats an issue. We are losing ground to UGA, OSU, etc...... I know some are OK with that---not me. The level of $$$, staffing and infrastructure support isn't where it is to have these results. What others aren't talking abt is this is very poor timing with conference expansion
But the thing is this: If we had lost Friday night, no way he would be making this statement. He knows changes need to be made, but these wins make him think he should stick with his ideas. The NC teams wouldve blown that LOU team out.

Yes. So was Boise State and SMU.
Neither of us had legit shots at winning a national title.
Clemson got in because we only played 3 good teams during the regular season. We beat 9 bad teams to make the ACCCG. Then had a miracle kick return and field goal to beat SMU and punch our ticket in. But we finished 1-4 against good teams last year. I'm not going to pretend that Clemson was in a position to win a national title last year.

Competing at the highest level. If that means we have to roll with 65 until the next cycle then so be it. Stop tying yourself to guys for 4 years that can’t help you compete nationally if you aren’t going to be able to part ways with them. Get some better talent evaluators, assistants.

I’m glad Dabo, his “Clemson Family” staff, and his players that never have to be worried about getting cut, can all rest easy, and collect their million dollar paychecks. Who needs championships gosh darn it when you can make quality men who are all heart and no quit? If you think otherwise, you’re a hater and a coot!!!

I seem to remember Chad Kelly, Derion Kendrick. Fred what’s his name that crashed into the mail truck along with his partner Malcom Greene all getting “cut” from Clemson. Don’t act like Dabo doesn’t mean what he says about players holding up their end of the bargain.
Just because Dabo said we will keep them on scholarship doesn’t mean they will stay. If a player makes zero NIL money being a true stringer here, how do you know they won’t leave on their own to make some money on another team. I expect at least two running backs to leave after this year in addition to Randall graduating.

Dabo's biggest challenge, and it would appear I was correct. Or more precisely, he's chosen to not engage with the new reality as it exists as regards roster management.
Disappointing, but not particularly surprising.
I'm not particularly hopeful that he's capable of making the changes necessary to bring us back to an elite program, if this really reflects his mindset, no matter what he does this offseason re: coaching staff changes.
That's too bad.

Doesn't surprise me at all that he would not pull a Deon or Belichick and run off DOZENS of players. HOWEVER it DOES sound like he may actually bring in some new folks and that's a good thing in not getting folks too comfortable in their jobs! That is a huge step for us if true!

My guess is he’ll pull the NIL money from the players who aren’t measuring up, and still require them to meet all the player responsibilities in terms of practice, working out etc. Those players will leave on their own.

Uhm IF A Scholarship Player Does Not Measure Up...Isn't That What The Transfer Portal "IS" About🤔 I'm Good With That Process... But I And A Lot Of TigerNation R Not Good With Paying A Yet To Graduate QB $3M/Year Who Has Lost 12 Total Games...3 Opening Day Losses...And Way Too Many Losses In A 3 Year Span In... The Valley👎👎👎 I Am NOT Seeing What's Gonna Be Different From The Last 3 Seasons Going Forward🤔 I 🙏 I'm Wrong..But I Don't Think I Am🌞
