I love a Bald Cypress but hope someone has considered all the cypress knees that will take over the area.

Cypress knees are made up of aerenchyma cells that help get oxygen in swampy areas. As long as the site is good knees will not be present.

Liked to watch it change over the course of the season. But alas, trees, like all of us, die.
Not sure what a bald cypress looks like, but it can't be as purdy as an oak.

Bald Cypress?

That's a non-native and is really out of place in the Clemson landscape. I'm not the type to scream about non-native landscaping, but that will be ridiculously out of place IMO.

They should plant black locusts . Then some of the balloons would pop when they pricked them and the sea turtle doves wouldn't gag to death a year later down in Ecuador.

Doesn't mean you can't like em and want to plant em. In that location, I just prefer a deciduous native species like a red maple, which really does turn orange in Fall, to a coastal plain conifer. Again, it's just personal preference.

Can be gorgeous too. Some turn doo brown too. They probably have ornamental varieties guaranteed to turn orange, which is cool if they do.
As long as the Tiger D keeps laying the lumber like last night, I really could not care less.

The Bald Cypress is a swamp tree. It would be out of place. However; up-staters won't know what it is anyway. Down-staters (low-country) will feel right at home with it. As one from a swamp area (Okefenokee) who grew up in the up-state of SC, I'm sure I'd take one look at it & think "What the hay is a cypress doing up here?" One thing is for sure though. If you plan to pull it up, you'd better get it before it's knee-high. Even one that small is virtually impossible to pull up. Try it sometime. You could win some money on it if you find somebody dumb enough to bet you that they can pull it up.

That is a great idea. Carvings and furniture from the white oak of death valley could make a lot of money for scholarships or another good cause. Heck, I would even buy a short branch and leaves for a few bucks and mount it in a box.

Good grief - I had no idea that I had so little knowledge about trees.
They're not getting rid of any computers are they? Do they still have that ol' IBM360 that we used? And are the punch cards still used? And the green-bar paper for the printers? I'd hate to see any of those go.

Or take a small branch, have Dabo carry it directly into the heart of the Oculus. That small branch will be as big as the existing tree by the ND game. Use the power for good.

I picked up acorns under the oak on the left side of the hill in 1981. Two trees came up. They are now mature oaks. I call them the champion oaks .

The tree behind iptay was the first to go. In these hills has trees. We need to protect them. Next they will try and reduce grass on the hill. Toooo much concrete.

I am disappointed that the tree has to be removed as well. I hated losing the tree that was where the band sits. These trees and our Green Grass Hill have helped make our stadium so much more attractive than the "bowls" that so are prevalent on so many college campuses.
