Didn't a Walk On just Guide Georgia To A NC?

I watched this kid from afar a bunch. He's the real deal and will help the team win.
Coached well and he "wins things he enters"! A.K.A he is just a winner!
I think he is a solid insurance policy that will end up contributing to Tigers football is big ways in the future.
I'm more shocked he wasn't ranked. I can only assume him coming from a 3A school hurt him or something! Or maybe he didn't go camping during each of the past few summers. Either way; I think Tigers football will contribute from having this kid.

Preferred walk-on is not a "free ride". A preferred walk-on is still a walk-on, no scholarship. The only real difference is a preferred walk-on is promised a spot on the 105-man roster (i.e., one of the 40 walk-on spots above the 85-man scholarship limit). I'm fine with a coach's kids getting a walk-on spot if they have the chops for it, which it seems like this kid does, it barely costs anything.

the fact that you are on the team. Lots of Scout Team Time. Maybe some Spring Game time, and maybe a series or two late in the game against the SC States of the schedule, although that might be questionable with the QB room that we currently have. Our QB's need a lot of work. The 1, 2, and 3 will get most of the PT.

I haven't seen him up close and personal, but he looks like a great athlete and he has a really nice arm. Not sure why he wasn't sought after more, but he looks like great depth. Klubnik will be the same class, so he won't play much at QB, probably. But, depth is a must. I don't know about all the Renfrow comparisons, Renfrow was an option QB and this kid looks like he has the arm to be a good drop back passer.

Doesn't hurt to give it a shot. For anyone that doesn't like it, tough, find another team because that's just how we roll. It's one of the things that make us special.

I've often wondered similarly about guys that seem to fall through the cracks, at least statistically. I'm definitely not a scout, and haven't watched any film on him, but those numbers look better than a UAB offer only.

Cade: 6’2”, 185 lbs…Trent 6’0”, 177 lbs.

Not saying that Cade couldn’t benefit from some extra muscle but he’s the #1 QB in the country and Lou d-for-pound they look about the same. It’s not building up his body that’s keeping him low.
Regardless I’m glad he’s coming to Clemson. Seems like a great add. I really like what we have at the QB position coming in.

Yes but still highly ranked as a recruit.

I have no doubt that both will have a lot of weight room time in their future but I’m just saying that Trent’s size is probably not the reason he’s ranked so low.
Two years of sustained success against solid competition with amazing stats. It would seem to warrant a few stars.
I do t know how all this works but my guess is that he never went to any of those camps where the recruiting gurus can see you and basically just wanted to be at Clemson so no interest from big programs (although apparently offered walk-on at Bama so who knows).
I guess we shall see over the next few years if the gurus see something beyond the stats. Kudos to them if they are right but I’m hoping we just got a steal.

Agree on lack of visibility as a contributing factor.

Cade played against the best competition at the highest level in a great football state while Trent was in AAA ball in South Carolina.
The camp and all-star exposure Cade got obviously gave him a tremendous boost.
I would think Trent would be given higher rating if he’d have had more exposure and competed at a higher level.
That said, they are both undersized for what they face at Clemson.

Idk. Might have been teams made the assumptions he was never going anywhere else. He sure looks good. Will be a nice addition to the QB room and may could teach the seasoned vets a thing or two.
Not a bad idea as others have said to give him a chance at slot.
Anyway, welcome back home Trent. I know papa is proud. Work hard, focused and you'll get the scholly...

I've watched him play a few times at Daniel High and he's a great "high school" QB, but his level of competition is atrocious. He basically throws to wide open recievers every pass. But with that said he has a great arm and will help us one day wether it's in practice or on special teams.

Im not trying to knock the kid or his recruitment in any way, but Im just trying to understand....how can he be a 2x SC Player of the Year and not be in the top 25 in the state and only have an offer to UAB?
Is that because he was at Daniel and a coaches son that most other schools felt it was not worth the effort? I understand being a preferred walk on as he probably gets a free (or at least discounted) ride being a coaches son and can leave a athl scholarship for someone else.

Don’t know anything about the kid but he throws pretty deep balls. I know it’s a highlight video and they are running wide open, but he sure hits everyone in perfect stride. Welcome aboard.

If he can step into a throw, he's pretty accurate downfield, & not all of his receivers were wide open !! He hit a good many in stride when they were doubled in the film of his junior year. He does double-step sometimes to get velocity on the ball, but he knows exactly where to throw it. Personally, I like the idea of having him in the program. He's not taking up a scolly, & whether he plays or not, he could wind up being a great position coach or more for us someday. Any kid of Danny Pearman can't be all bad
