Finally someone else sees theelephant in the room! We need a new OC and Dabo needs to let him run it!

I wonder if this explains some of Streeter's attitude in post game pressers. He's taking heat for decisions he's not making, and can't call out Dabo in public.

that would also mean that in addition to klubnik that johnson, wiles and helms are ALL also worse than ol' 8/29. I ain't buying it.

the play calling is a product of the limitations at QB.
I'm still scratching my head over that mind-numbing three stooges kick return after the safety. Score on that possession, rather than giving it right back to them, and the game is likely over.
That and the decision to put the game on DJ's shoulders when it was abundantly clear that he couldn't consistently hit the ground with his hat.
The Dirt Peckers ranked 110th nationally in rush defense. Yet the decision was made to throw the ball on 44% of the total plays run, completing only 8 of them (just 3 in the second half).
There was no need to throw it at all, because they clearly couldn't stop the friggin' run, yet we threw it nearly half of the total plays called. THAT is totally incomprehensible !!!

I think you have a point, the play calling shows that while they publicly say they believe in him, the play calling shows that theydon't trust him to execute.

Agree. Play calling is limited by our limited QB ability to make quick decisions and execute the plays. We’re dumbed down on offense.

The fact that Mafah fumbled on the "three stooges" kick-off return has nothing to do whether the trick play was the problem. It would be like criticizing a 20 yard pass completion because the receiver fumbled the ball. That is just silly.

The play itself was a good play. The timing of calling said is what has most up in arms. No need for that call at point in the game.

The kick return trick play was a good call. It gained more yardage. It was only the fumble and that wasn't caused by the play. That wasn't like Sammy Watkins throwing play.

The difference is we had exceptional talent at QB, RB and WR to make this vanilla offense look good.

I agree with most of your points. I have a couple of things to add to it.
The playcalling is also limited by the receivers as well.
I disagree a little bit about tunjing the ball. In the second half, they were starting to do a better job against the run. Some of those openings from the first half weren't there in the second half.

I see this argument a lot, but it doesn't strike me as valid.
If Dabo is intimately involved in offense NOW, which he's all but admitted he is regarding planning and has final sign off on any play (though that's not necessarily calling every play and more like 'I want to go for it on this 4th down, Coach you okay with that?') then we also have to allow that he was likely acting the same in the PAST when we had world beating offensive numbers and performance.
We can't say 'Well, Dabo wasn't involved when we were good but now that we suck it's clearly his influence'. If Dabo 'meddles' in the offense it stands to reason he's been doing it consistently during his tenure here.
And for most of that time? We've been pretty good on offense.
Listen, the last two years we've been a dumpster fire on offense no doubt. But the 'Dabo is meddling with the offense' seem a whole lot less plausible to me than a) poor QB play b) WR fall off or c) stale scheme.

I think the problem is that Clemson does not have Watson or Lawrence anymore. The play calling was bad then too.

Dabo made the difficult decision at the time when he benched K. Bryant for Trevor. He also canned Billy Napier right out of the box when he became head coach.....Oh if we only had Billy as OC now. If the change at OC needs to come, I suspect Dabo will make the change.

All the throws. His arm wasn’t strong enough to be a big time qb
We had an outrageously good defense that took us to the playoffs

All those runs on first down up the A-gap for no gain............just stupidity. Then the 3 stooges punt return........I think you have your answer.
