I've lost almost 4 years of contributions in a month.
This doesn't feel like winning.
At all.

YOU CAN SAY WORDS LIKE "RETARD" WITHOUT GETTING CANCELED.
YOU DON'T HAVE TO READ SOMEONE'S PRONOUNS IN THEIR TWITTER BIO.
AND WE SAVED WOMEN'S SPORTS.
HOW DARE YOU SAY THIS WASN'T WORTH FOUR YEARS OF 401K CONTRIBUTIONS!!!!!

And that’s with conservative asset allocation.
Retired in 2020 but my kids may need to work a little longer. And grandkids, god only knows their fate.

Glad my mom took her required withdrawals earlier this year, hopefully for her it rebounds before that comes around again

Sorry to hear that, 401k's with no safe haven options are not good. I moved everything to a chicken fund in January, my losses are zero and making 4.5% interest. This stuff is not good nor funny to people trying to do the right things like saving for retirement.

Ok so how much did you gain back today assuming you did not knee jerk and lock in your losses?

You maybe be down $100K but you haven't LOST any money except on paper. You can NEVER lose something you never had. Had you sold today, then yes you lost the funds. From a 77 YO wealthy man, don't panic and don't even look at your 401K if you are young to mid age. Keep grinding and investing and don't let these market swings effect you. Stay the course.
Go Tigers..

Had this same conversation with my son in law 2 days ago. He was concerned about his “losses” and asked me how much I’ve lost. I said “not a dime”. Then I explained as you just did that you have not lost anything unless you knee jerk and lock in your losses. Also, explained to him that the best market days in history always come right after corrections and that you can not know when those will be. So, I told him “do not get out now!!” Today he thinks I’m a prophet. I told him I’m no prophet just had a good teacher named historical market trends.
