Why the SEC Bias

I asked ChatGPT to compare the number of NFL Players from the ACC compared to the SEC.
As of the 2024–25 NFL season opener, over 360 former ACC football players were on NFL rosters 🏈 NFL Players from the ACC As of the 2024–25 NFL season opener, over 360 former ACC football players were on NFL rosters (including practice squads and injured lists) .
Specifically, 363 ACC alumni were listed across all team rosters, with 262 on active 53‑man rosters .
Clemson led the conference with 38 players, followed by FSU (34) and Miami (31) During the 2025 NFL playoffs, at least 160+ ACC products were still on playoff team rosters
Stanford (17), Clemson (16), and Pitt (16) had the most.
In the 2025 NFL Draft, ACC schools had 42 players selected—the most since 2021
🏈 NFL Players from the SEC As of the 2023 NFL season opener, 372 former SEC football players were listed on NFL active rosters
✅ Summary The SEC leads in NFL alumni, with 372 players on rosters vs. approximately 363 for the ACC.
In the Olympics, the SEC had a slight edge in U.S. representation (102 vs. ACC’s 98)

Why? Because it is ESPN's cash cow.

Probably because the ACC as far as teams generally suck and the SEC does get more highly drafted player. Top few rounds and not dust on rosters.

The number of players drafted last season was approximately 65 from the SEC and 32 from the ACC.
But it goes to BIAS because the number of players on rosters is pretty even. So IMHO, players are drafted due to having played in the highly overrated SEC, but in the long run, everything evens out.

You would have to look at starters. SEC as far as entire teams, even without the NFL is much more talented than the ACC. Many talented players don't even make the NFL. Their teams are deeper than the ACC.

It's laughable if you want to compare athletes/teams between the ACC and the SEC. There's some good players over there and maybe one or two teams over there as well but top to bottom it's a double A league compared to the majors. There is five or six teams from the SEC that would win that conference every year. Sorry, just true.

I don’t know if this is important or not. For the ACC you said there are 363 on rosters (including practice squad and injured lists). Then say there are 262 ACC players on active rosters in the NFL. For the SEC you only give a number of 372 on NFL active rosters. Should you be comparing SEC 372 to ACC 262? Or was that just an oversight?

I suppose the fact that the ACC has had a winning record against the SEC only twice in the last 10 seasons, and 3 times in the last 20, has nothing to do with it.
Please.

Your supposition is correct. It has nothing to do with ESPN bias.
If we’re pointing out random metrics though, let’s talk about Clemson twice taking down Alabama (clearly SEC’s best ever) for the national title, including (according to ESPN) the “best CFB team ever” by 44-16.

One game. Seven years ago. Good job Dabo - hat's off to him. You went 2-2 vs Bama over those 4 seasons. Dabo got hammered by two teams that Bama either beat (OSU 2020) or went toe-to-toe with (LSU 2019) in the years since. People have been talking about it being a "crossroads season" for Dabo since 2021, hence the imagined "disrespect".

It comes down to viewers and potential viewers and the number of people to sell stuff to. Look at total viewership from the 2024 football season.
SEC: 589.0 million total viewers
ACC: 208.5 million total viewers.
If you are selling product via TV advertisements you get 2.82 times the coverage with SEC football games than you do with ACC games. The big 10 has 417.00 million viewers. If you were a sports media business selling advertisement which in general is going to sell better and for more money? There is a reason a Superbowl advertisements cost so much if you simply. The same ad run during the regular season comes at a fraction of the cost..It all comes down to the # of viewers. More viewers means they sell the same ads for more money. It not a vendetta against the ACC...its business. THe biggest problem the ACC has is the size of the schools it has. That is the SEC bias in a nutshell. It's business not something based on the performance the the teams or how many players the put in the NFL...it all about selling advertisements and advertisements that get seen by more viewers get more money. Is it justified? Probably..it sucks, but that is how it is.

That's not really true. Yes, you are right about viewership. But if it were about size of schools then Universities like Central Florida, Arizona St, and Florida International would drive TV ratings since all 3 are among the 10 largest Universities in America. It IS largely based on performance of the teams. Duke is a fairly small school (particularly undergrad) but they have huge Basketball ratings because they win. SEC outpaces the mostly larger Big10 colleges in viewership because the SEC wins.

There you go, It Just Means More. Much larger viewership, fans much more devoted, larger stadiums, more attendance and much tougher conference. No Bias. The facts speak. Don't keep your head in the sand.
