Last season for Brad?

How many of you want the team to be bad enough that Coach gets fired this year? Not last year. Not three years ago. And Natty2023 make sure you mention he’s the 38th paid coach and only finished top 40 twice. It seems that’s all you know how to say. Still waiting on you to share an email from Judge to verify he’s on here with several names or is crazy as you said.

I don't want Clemson to be bad or lose anything

I want us to win national championships in everything. I hope Brad makes a deep run into the tournament and shows his new assistants can help coach better. Then we have a great nucleus returning and let's do it again next year.
I don't want us to lose. I don't dislike Brad one iota. I think he's a cool dude who's done everything right but win enough. If he can win more than he'll be achieving on a level more in line with his salary.
And since you asked:
1. We have an average national finish in the mid-70's during Brad's tenure.
2. Brad is the 38th highest paid coach in America, and in conjunction with point 1, he's led us to TWO top 40 finishes in 12 seasons. That's COMPLETELY unacceptable, especially considering the salary.
3. We've been to a play-in game with Purnells players and actually won one game. That's not technically a tournament win since it was in fact a play-in game that gave us the opportunity to get into the tournament field. We promptly lost. We've been to another tournament where Gabe DeVoe and the guards got hot. Sweet 16 finish and great season. Two tournament wins. We made the tournament one other time and failed in the 1st round. That's TWO (true) tournament wins in 12 years, both in one season.
Let's go Tigers!

It doesn’t count for honest comparative purposes with any previous coaches because it didn’t exist prior to Brownell’s first season. Comparing NCAA tourney stats for coaches pre and post expansion to 64 teams is stupid. Ellis, Barnes, Shyatt, Purnell, and Brownell can be reasonably compared since they coached in the post 64 team era. Brownell’s appearance should count since he basically won his way into the field of 64. That victory does not earn equal footing with a round of 64 game. It’s not rocket science. And no, an appearance after the next major expansion will not be equal to an appearance before.
I’ve never heard anyone, ever say Dabo’s first victory doesn’t count. That’s stupid. And I thought you didn’t know anything about what Gamecocks said about things.

It’s called a “play-in” game because you’re playing to “get in” the tournament. So you think beating the 67th best Team in the country is something to be proud of? I want the basketball team to win as much as anybody, but the 12 seasons preceding this one, Brad has failed the test in most years.

I was looking at his “awards given” column. He only gives out TDs apparently. And this most recent were a string of them to you. I do find the TD / TU to be a little glitchy. My points will jump but when I look at TUs received it’s only 1 or 2 more that I can see. I give out a lot of TDs but have been trying to make a more concerted effort to dole out TUs. I mostly ignored giving TUs because a lot of the posters I’m inclined to give them to are very entrenched with 100% pulses. Trying to be a more well rounded T-Netter. But some make it very difficult.

There are obviously some glitches in the system because the 16 TDs are to 51 posts if you click on it. Perhaps it’s just another mistake in the mobile coding like your avatar being broken. I’m not gonna stay up all night rage typing about it though. Take a pill.

You really don’t stop. I was looking right at them when I made the comment to BBO. It might have been a glitch. Who knows. There are current at least 36 TDs you’ve given not visible when I click on your awards given. It’s not that big a deal.

Why even start this thread? There is little clamor for his job, as in previous years. It’s quite evident that this season’s results removes him from the precarious “hot seat” position (barring a complete meltdown). We still need to see better high school recruiting, and hopefully a nice tournament run will draw the sort of positive attention the program needs.

However, I am really enjoying the season we are having and acknowledge that he has done a great job with this team. I don’t know that I would give him a contract extension this season, but he has earned reprieve from our fan base.
Sit back and enjoy the season we are having. Lord knows we have earned it, well the ones who support the program, and support our coach.

Last season should have been his last. He got lucky this year and though I’m happy for the teams success, I am disappointed the program will be further delayed in its future success when he finally does leave. He has done everything he can do and showed the type of coach he is. Good guy. Good coach. Can get lucky and have a good run once every few years, but doesn’t know how to win consistently and can’t finish the big games. Absolutely ZERO reason to be knocked out of the ACC tournament in the first round almost every year.

Realistically, with the way the season has played out so far, BB should not be fired and he should not be extended. If we make the tournament this year, that will be 3 of the last 5 years and that will take the pressure off Neff to do anything this year. BB still has 3 years left on his last extension so there is no rush to do anything with his contract right now. That decision can be made down the road in a couple of years and based on what happens between now and then.

He would have to be extended to give him at least 4 years left on his contract. That's essential for recruiting.

I could see it maybe happening after next season but I certainly don't see it happening after this one unless we make a deep run in the tournament and he becomes a target to leave for another program.

The reality is that for the 2023 recruiting class (for which signing day has already passed) Brad will, under the current contract, have only 3 years left when those recruits enroll. If it wasn't a concern for the 2023 recruiting class, why should it be going forward?

I agree, I don't think it is. Recruits know coaches don't have that much control over how long they are with a program. Even with an extension, he can still be let go with a buyout. Heck, these days, the players don't even know how long they will stick around.

I honestly wouldn't because if the results are there, the extensions will come. And with how players are moving around in football, I just don't see it being that big of a deal. The priorities have definitely changed when it comes to recruiting.

And really, the extensions tend to be more because you want to lock in a successful coach for a period of time rather than because of recruiting.

upset or disappointed that we are doing so well this year, because they decided years ago that they didn't want Brad as our coach and were ready for someone else.
Brad will likely get an extension after the season, a season which will be our third NCAA Tournament out of the last 5. This will cause most of those fans to be quite disappointed.
The reality is that he is paid fairly. His most recent contract came after our last NCAA Tournament appearance in 2021, when we were the 28th seed nationally for the NCAA Tournament and had a program record number of wins over teams who made the NCAA Tournament.
He wasn't paid in the top 40 until then, so it's not like we've been paying him like a top 40 coach his entire career here.
Last year was a disappointing year, but this year is notable for a record start to ACC play like we have never seen before at Clemson. That should be celebrated! This is supposed to be fun!
Dating back to 2017, we have the fifth most wins in the ACC. That's 5th out of 15 schools. That's top third of the conference. Many consider that the upper echelon of the ACC. That is an outstanding accomplishment, especially for Clemson basketball.
I don't see Natty2023's posts, because I ignore him, but I have never contacted him. I certainly haven't said that I have multiple usernames here, because I don't have any other usernames. There is no email from me.

"This is supposed to be fun!"
and therein lies the problem. It is supposed to be. If someone would let Eeyore know to take off the powder blue sweatsuit and bring a little excitement more that 25% of the time we might be ready to believe that his 13th season isn't just some unholy bad luck juju on us actual fans who care about Clemson basketball and aren't nearly as interested in the rising value of Brownell's personal financial statement.

She's as phony as a four dollar bill.

That's why most of the site would like to see her trolling nonsense banned.
Her defenseless defending of the basketball program is one thing, but her constant attempts to bring football and everything else Clemson down to that level is pure unadulterated trolling, which is obviously supposed to be against the rules.
"It's supposed to be fun", she says. It obvious she gets her jollies from trolling the better programs at Clemson.

I want Brad and the team to do awesome this year.
Reach an elite eight. Better programs come calling and Brad can go to where he is appreciated.
And then all the anti Brad folks can put their plans in motion.
Very interested in who they hire.

This year has been decent for the Men's Team. Top 20. Top of the ACC. Can't really argue with those stats.
