I know a few of you have had this:
Ran into a nice guy, a store helper, he saw my clemson colors. Immediately morphed the conversation from "congrats to you tigers" to "we're proud of Dawn Staley, she's our Dabo, college All-American, Natty winner, Olympic gold medal coach" and pretty much "she's greatness on par with or maybe even above Dabo". Very nice guy, so I just let it slide.
What say some of you when this happens?

What do I accomplish if I win an argument with this half wit. I think that you handled it well. When women’s basketball is their top performing sport ... nothing needs to be said.

You really did do the right thing. You should always be polite until provoked... and then (especially when dealing with coots) you may unleash whatever of the True Tales Of Domination come to mind. There are so many and they all result in the desired affect in the coot in question: sputtering about women's basketball, how important women's equestrian sports are and the skill required to fish for bass. And as mentioned by others, always throw in "Go Tigers" as you turn and walk away.

Say: “Congrats, Coach Staley is a class act.” (I heard her speak last year and she has a lot in common with Coach Swinney regarding the way she cares for her players and their development as good people.). My dad always encouraged me to be big about small things.

I also would have let it slide.. perhaps would have added something like, Its nice to have something fun to cheer for, whatever it is. I can mean that genuinely, bought if the listener gives it ANY thought, they'll recognize an observed separation between the two.
