Same. Just 2. I wouldn't want to do a thru-hike, but I am interested in 2 to 3 weeks though.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

One of my best friends did a through hike.

My hike was a loop in the Smokies that used part of the AT.

Never done more than a day hike on the AT. I did the Foothills Trail a couple

years ago. It's closer to home and I could day-hike it in sections. It's 77 miles from Table Rock to Oconee State Park.

How did you like it? Good views?

2

Jun 27, 2024, 2:46 PM

When my boys are older I'd love to take them on section hikes. Foothills is one I had considered but haven't looked into it much.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I liked it quite a bit, there are some really pretty sections along the

Chattooga, Lake Jocassee, and the Whitewater River. There are some nice views - especially in winter when leaves are down - but you can get a bunch of better views on day hikes in the same area that aren't really part of the FT.

One challenge for day-hiking it that really makes it more fun is there is a fairly long stretch with boat access from Lake Jocassee but no car access. So to day hike it we hired a boat shuttle to pickup and drop off one day, and another day they dropped us off and we hiked to a car. That was the longest day we did (18 miles).

Spent about 1/2 a day when I was in Boy Scouts about 100 years ago. Had a friend here that has done all 3 trails in the US. The Appalachian, Intercontinental Divide and Pacific Coast. The last two he did in one trip. Broke up the Appalachian trail. Dude was real "squirrely" around other people when he got back. Not used to being around that many people. Took him a week or two to really "get back".

I’ve only done day hikes on the AT. Buddy and I plan to do the Foothills Trail this fall. Full week of hiking and backpacking. Fun for a couple of old turds. He’s 65 and I’m 60.
