"I'm a gun lover. I have guns. I'm a former police officer. I'm a former Army officer. But these M-4s, AR-15s, they've got to get off the streets, or this is going to keep happening," Spainhouer said on Sunday. "We've got to stop that at some point."

The intent of 2a was to provide a check for US citizens against future hypothetical government tyranny. In such a hypothetical situation, who would be the most likely instruments of enforcement?—the military and the police. The guy he quoted is both of those.
It’s like trying to argue for removing presidential veto power and quoting a senator as your expert witness.

are notoriously anti-2A.
This is a huge blind spot for the NRA (especially when it comes to blacks). The NRA should have been marching on Minnesota when Philando Castile was straight-up executed for being a legal gun owner. Just one of several examples, but the NRA is dead-quiet because they don't want to cross the cop lobby.

notoriously means you have to have proof of more than one as there are like 3700 Chiefs. So we need you to quote or have around 1200 to get a good measure.

“Whose side are you on? Gun manufacturers? The gun lobby? Or the children that are getting gunned down in this country every single day?” - Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo (2019)
“I understand public safety better than gun industry lobbyists and those elected officials who help advance their agenda. I can say with certainty that more guns are not the answer.” - Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel (2017)
Locally, the Mecklenburg County Sheriff was openly abusing COVID to slow-walk pistol permits, as were other county sheriffs, such as Wake. Both were sued (Wake County multiple times).

“We are out outgunned. We’re outmanned. We’re out-staffed. We do need responsible gun legislation,” Phoenix Police Chief Jeri Williams, who is president of the Major Cities Chiefs Association, a group that represents police chiefs in large cities around the country, told the Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday. “We do believe that there should be a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines in order for us to properly serve and protect our community.”

In the next 10 to 25 years, will there be significant advancements in treating mental health
May 8, 2023, 9:55 AM

that reduce the number of people with mental health problems?
In other words, what advances in mental health treatment are on the horizon to significantly reduce mental illnesses? It seems many articles are suggesting increases in mental health issues especially among the young. If the the latter is true, then the likelihood of increased mass shootings in the future seems greater given the availability of firearms.
Treatment of mental health is a noble objective but realistically, is it likely to create significant change? Hope my skepticism is wrong.

you could easily increase resources, support, and education around mental health. But that would involve gubmint and taxes. Big no no

anymore? And if my home is robbed and my guns are stolen, it's actually my fault if somebody uses them to commit a crime? Again, a very on brand take for progressives.
Let's face it, banning guns is the end game, and each little bit of gun control is just nibbling away to get there. After guns it will be knives, we've seen it play out elsewhere so it's not conspiracy theory to reach this conclusion.

Which mass shooting would proper storage laws prevented? Maybe police and our justice system actually acting to prevent and prosecute property crime would be more reasonable instead of putting the burden on the law abiding, innocent citizens?
I'd say we need about a decade moratorium on new laws until we actually start enforcing the ones we have.

At least, on the national scale; perhaps it is on a more local one.
I compare this to abortion. Abortion was literally the car the GOP dog didn't know what to do with when they caught it, and now it's ####### with local whackos passing crazy laws.
The Dems don't want guns banned, and if they do, well, they'll learn soon they didn't.

They just know they have to do it incrementally. Notice the talk about banning all semi automatics now, that's the majority of guns in circulation and technology that is 100+ years old. After that they'll move to revolvers, cause they're basically a semi automatic anyway right??, then it would be "sniper rifles" aka your bolt action hunting rifle.
IMO this is one issue that we cannot give an inch on, cause once you lose those rights they're gone forever.
