Who does this ##### report to? Who will she moderate more frequently due to that chain of escalation? How is this not extreme bias executed at scale to manipulate people into thinking what they want them to think?
What impact would this "moderation" have on elections if a bureaucrat has the ability to, say, "provide context" (her quote) to something a Red ant says while completely blow over what a Blue ant says in a very tight political battleground area?
A lot of you grew up a generation or two before me. How would your generation have handled it if everything you wrote or said had to be rubber stamped by a bureaucrat sitting in Washington? The folks from those older generations that I know are ultra conservative, and they'd lose their ####### minds.
I couldn't imagine some of the OG civil rights people, free-thought hippies' reactions if Nixon put some punk ### dude in a chair to monitor what citizens were saying, with the executive power to modify their statements prior to being published.
This is all about control and tightening the grip of that control on the citizens to ensure they're behaving according to the Party's standards.
The whole misinformation and disinformation is just a bunch of made up ######## to allow these #### suckers to justify this ####.
Lastly, how much money are we spending on this?

You don't. You just do your best and try to find a way to depoliticize it and take it out of the government's control as much as possible.
How do you do that? I'm open to suggestions because if there's one thing the Trump regime taught us it's that anything that can be politicized, twisted, and filled with yes-man partisan hacks will be...and I don't trust the far left to go setting the agenda for "what is truth actually?" for all of us either...which means, avoiding socialist academics. (Who I will admit I am also biased against, since I don't like the safe-space mentality a lot of academics have while they imagine utopia from their cloistered little Ivory Towers that are in no way connected to the real world.)
On the other hand, a state that won't defend its own ideology won't stay a viable state very long, because if those who care less about ideals have free access to zap their loopiness right into your own citizens' brains they can clearly weaponize that access and are doing it with alarming success right now.

That's fine if you have since changed your view after the Bush fiasco. I'm glad you admit that now. But please apply the same philosophy to Trump, his ilk, and the next Pub administration.
And for the record, I agree with you that the government should not be regulating this stuff.

I wouldn't call it that; it doesn't really fit the crux of fascist ideology. Do I think he's overstepping authority? Absolutely. Government control over private business goes far deeper and into a more loyalty-pledge sense under fascism. On the vaccines, I saw that more as government thinking they had authority in a realm they did not in what they thought was benevolent to the people. Sort of that "road to hell paved with good intentions" kind of deal.
On the farms, that's just base discrimination. I agree it's wrong but doesn't fit the definition.

benefit of the doubt....
Fascism:: a tendency toward or actual exercise of strong autocratic or dictatorial control
That fits this administration pretty well...Who cares what the courts say, we'll do it anyway and by the time they make a ruling we'll have bullied people into it anyway! The Biden admin is also big on ESG scores, which is more or less a loyalty pledge to woke causes and absurd, society damaging energy policy.

That's a fairly simple definition of it given the depths in which fascist governments have gone. Fascism operates off malevolence; it has to in order to succeed. And it has to trick the majority of the people into believing a minority is the enemy bent on destroying the nation, thus that minority must be oppressed. Basically, I guess even simpler, bad guys tricking the people into thinking they're good.
The Biden administration seems to operate more out of incompetence and a poor understanding of the law/presidential power. I think they actually believe they're doing what's best for all people but executing it very poorly. The vaccine mandate wasn't an effective fascist move; it was met with resounding resistance. An effective fascist move would have been already securing business loyalty with perks for those businesses that complied and punishment against the minority who didn't (all while convincing them they were out to harm the masses). And that minority would be carefully targeted.
Instead, Biden befuddled his way up on stage, threatened the whole #### crowd of American private business, and everyone said, "Aw, #### no." Fascist regimes would cringe at the stupidity of such a move.
On the energy policy, that, IMO, would be contrarian to fascist economics as successful fascism relies on a thriving economy that is basically created by government mandates and dabbling between the public and private sector. Such an energy policy doesn't actually work to boost the economic production, right?

It's a simple definition, but this admin fits it

I think they absolutely operate out of malevolence, certainly against our established social and political systems. They say so themselves, they believe this country is systematically bad and requires change. Biden himself has questioned whether our political system is capable of rapid responses he thinks may be necessary, and touted China as an example of being able to pivot fast. That said, we don't even know who is actually running this administration.
Painting every conservative major political candidate as some sort of evil racist, xenophobe, homophobe, etc. for the past 20 years sounds similar to what you're talking about, look at how Quozzel and others talk about Trump voters now too. An enemy bent on destroying the nation...
I do think there is a lot of incompetence at play, but a lot of this is on purpose too. The vaccine mandates were not met with near the resistance you indicate, once OSHA got involved that more or less bullied every applicable company into compliance. Nobody but the courts really said Aw hell no, and then he tried to ignore them anyway.
If you look at their energy policy I would say it's more geared toward picking winners and losers, and in that regard it's working well. They want to push us towards EV's and other 'green energy', well crippling the fossil fuel industry is one way to try to do that. ESG helps make sure their preferred companies get the loans, etc. required to thrive in the markets they heavily regulate.
Is is a perfect fit to the definition? No, but it amazes me how so many people who cried fascism for the duration of Trumps term completely whistle past the grave yard in regards to much of what this administration is doing.

Dude, that is absolutely not Fascism.
Fascism is what you saw in Italy under Mussolini, in Spain under Franco, in Argentina under Juan Peron. More recently we're seeing a form of "soft" Fascism - though he calls it "illiberal democracy", like there is such a thing, since the whole point of democracy is liberalism, at least in the sense that we'll all agree to tolerate one another and vote on it rather than fight it out in the streets, in Hungary. Viktor Orban did it by gerrymandering a democracy to death...which CPAC is trying directly to do. And modern Russia under Putin is thoroughly Fascist.
They all do it the same way: vilify some group of people - always liberals, and usually gays - as "the enemies of your freedom"...and as such, you're free to do what you want to them. (It's basically the same as that psychotic priest on the Road to Medina in Kingdom of Heaven telling passing Crusaders: "To kill a pagan isn't murder, it's the path to heaven." Their signature traits are physical intimidation, militarism - Fascist states always turn their frustrations on their neighbors - machismo, fear, and of course, control of the press and a belief that they somehow invented violence and as such have a corner on it...and so of course can take what they want from others because they're the real men here and they can. (We saw this attitude all over Putin's idiotic and inept invasion of Ukraine, when the Russian army blundered its way in...and got absolutely shelled by a resistance largely put together with GoFundMe. The only thing it takes to do violence well...is a commitment to do violence. Nobody's got a corner on that.)
Oh, and they love their disinformation. No lie, the Phillipines just elected Ferdinand Marcos's son...behind a dizzying flurry of disinformation. Nobody's sure who even organized that though the inferences are: nowhere good. (It was definitely foreign. Young Marcos obviously cut himself some very shady deals to win back his dad's seat.)
Joe Biden bears absolutely zero relationship to Fascists. You can argue with his government and his decision-making and his capability - and I do - but "Fascist" he is not, not even remotely.

There was sooooo many during Trump and Covid that turned out to be wrong or just flat out lies.
I treat all those stories as false until I see indisputable evidence.
Same goes for those BS "scientific: studies. What was that one study during covid that every single media outlet ran with and every politician used as fact and were used by social media to ban people and posts?
It turned out to be flat out made up and was eventually pulled. Was never peer reviewed but published in all the science mags.
I can't remember what it was now but so criminal.

There are always limits on free speech. You can't yell "fire" in a crowded theater. You can't call in a fake bomb threat. You can't threaten violence against others, or try to advocate violence publicly. Similarly there's been a lot of things we've let go that are outright treason to American ideals. I personally think spreading sedition and advocating the forcible removal of democracy crosses that line, and Trump and MAGA regularly are guilty of just that...and Fox News and the "conservative media" are mouthpieces for something profoundly anti-American.
I would have personally arrested Trump, Bannon, Meadows, and anybody remotely connected to this mess and tried them for sedition. But Joe is being nice, high-minded...and weak and ineffectual. He's worried about "upsetting" MAGA, and is too timid and set in his ways to realize it doesn't matter a sweet sh!t whether MAGA is "upset" or not.
If that upsets anyone fond of MAGA, I could care less. Fascists - and this MAGA movement that has metastasized inside the GOP like a cancer absolutely fits the definition of "fascism" - are going to come at you whether you "upset" them or not. Fascists are intrinsically tribal and hostile to anyone not in their own narrowly defined tribe; they are literally organized around fear of the "other". The only thing a Fascist mind respects is actual strength.

No, I just know exactly what MAGA is, and how this movie ends.
Those who are attracted to Fascist movements are low-conscientiousness aggressors who care absolutely nothing about ideals or "decency"...empathy and a moral structure are files they simply do not have on their hard drives. They just covet, and they just resent. There's no point in reasoning with one; they can't hear you and aren't ever going to stop trying to take what they regard as "rightfully theirs" - however dubious that notion may be, Russia's even now trying to annex Ukraine because Ukraine was "built" by Russia...whatever - unless they're stopped. They're level-2's at best (many are level 1's) on Kohlberg's scale...which in plain English means their morality goes as far as: "whatever the boss says is right". (Level 1's are even lower, they're concerned only about getting caught or not getting caught.) Who do you think filled the ranks of the Nazi Party? Who even now fills the ranks of Putin's corrupt-oligarchy-turned-police-state? Who led every Viking raid ever?
Who even now shows up at Trump rallies, dressed in these over-the-top caricatures of red, white, and blue, their mouths open with blind rapt worshipfulness as they finish Trump's sentences for him, looking for the Great Man who will lead them to victory against their enemies? Anybody who knows history knows exactly what the $%^$ MAGA is.
It's a barbaric, militaristic mindset that's as old as time. I just don't fool myself at all about what it is, or where that road leads.

attempting to intimidate Supreme Court justices into changing their (leaked) ruling by protesting at their homes, or is this level of hatred only reserved for the MAGA crowd? I also don't recall seeing this level of anger over our Democrat politicians encouraging and bailing out violent, seditious rioters.
Seems like you're maybe a half step away from advocating Trump voters go into concentration camps, which is ironic considering your supposed distaste for fascist behavior.
This also proves why you cannot regulate speech, we do not possess the capability to be neutral to the degree it would be necessary. Look at Twitter, Antifa is allowed to organize nationwide riots, but if you say a man can't have babies that can get you a ban. Many of you seethe with rage over MAGA (whatever that actually is), yet completely give a pass to the people who actually caused billions of dollars of damages, and are currently actively trying to bully the Supreme Court into a decision they want.

Literally nobody ever denied a risk of pericarditis from the J&J vaccine. It was recognized, studied, published, and circulated widely, as were management paradigms. I’m not talking about what some blue haired barista on tik tok says, I mean people who matter. There is no conspiracy.
This is my problem with the perpetual outrage victim complex, when you make statements like this it materially cheapens the “msm are the enemy” argument, which is on thin ice and requires certain presuppositions to begin with.

You don't have to send Trump supporters to concentration camps.
You just have to kneecap their leadership when they step out of line and make examples of them. That's the really nice part about dealing with far-right wingers, strength is all they respect...but show some and they fall right into line like little lambs. I applied this principle every night I worked as a bouncer.
My cynical experience is that leftists tend to be like a herd of cats, all milling around in different directions, all unique and special flowers, and on the far left, each with their own manifesto and cause. Far right wingers are pack animals with a far more predatory and less idealistic mindset, and always seem to be looking for that Great Leader to tell them what to do, and who they can be pointed at who it's acceptable to bash their brains in 'cause, well, them sumbitches have it coming.
Both sides can metastasize into cancers, but when the far left does it, it's always because ideology got out of control and started running rampant, and they start purging anybody who doesn't have the "correct" mindset...which always turns out to be most everybody, since people who put ideals above people are invariably people who hate people. But they feed on class resentment. There has to be a huge and glaring wealth disparity and no vehicle for self-advancement for their BS to take root. Up until now in America those conditions simply haven't been here; capitalism has served us well. (But Gen Z is turning against capitalism right now because it isn't serving them.)
On the other hand, you wanna stop the Proud Boys? Make an example of Enrique Tario. You want to shut down an Aryan chapter? Take out their Alpha Dogs. You won't get martyrs...because they don't have a real cause.
That works a lot less well against ideologues, but the far right isn't motivated by ideology...just resentment, tribalism, and covetiousness.

square with observable reality. The left is organizing, mobilizing, causing billions of dollars in damage around the country, and now actively harassing Supreme Court justices at their homes in an effort to bully their way into a favorable ruling. They're doxxing people they disagree with, going after their careers and more. They have been masters at community organizing and protesting for awhile now, hardly the herd of cats you describe.
This level of hostility is unmatched on the right, so far anyway. But by giving the left a total pass like so many do, and letting them go completely unchecked, ultimately we will end up with some sort of right wing boogie man. It's simply the way nature works.

But don't pretend you don't support the government regulating speech. You wanted them to do that for Twitter and you supported DeSantis punishing Disney for it. You only want them to stay out of regulating speech that YOU like. You're just fine with it happening to the opinions you don't.
If I can really dig into my wayback machine, I think you were butt-tapping the likes of Spectre when he and his ilk were calling for sedition charges against people opposing the Iraq war.

Slander and libel are two. Speech that incites violence is generally illegal. I'm sure others can think of other examples.

Prodigal's question wasn't childlike. Your statement was.
Your statement, The only answer is The government Doesnt regulate ANY speech.
makes no sense. The government regulates lots of speech. "Regulating" speech means limiting and prohibiting speech.
Your response, what i mean is speech that isnt already against the law.
also makes no sense. That's like saying the government shouldn't make any criminal laws except for things that are already a crime.

[ in reply to I think that a Disinformation Governance Board is a great ] |

the probability in this day and age is next to zero, unfortunately.
My biggest gripe with all of this, is why is the government involved in the first place? And how on earth are people supporting, of all entities, the US ####### Government?!
We supposedly have intelligence agencies monitoring foreign cyber warfare attempts that are harmful to our populace, right? That's fine, that's their job. I personally think they're getting their assholez pushed in, but that's another topic all together.
Back to this governance board...who's holding them accountable? Who sets their mandates? What are their KPIs that measures them to whatever mandates they supposedly have? It's ludacris.
And speaking of accountability, who holds the US Government accountable? How much straight up ######## (formally now referred to as "disinformation") have they spewed out in the past 20, 30, 40 years? Surely I'm not the only person in here that realizes the biggest propagator of dIsInFoRmAtIoN in all of our lifetimes is the US government...am I?
What happened to the old days, when people would be talking about something, and you could just straight tell someone they're full of ####### ####? Not, I think that's disinformation.
And to top it off, the modus operandi of the red ants vs blue ants society we live in, is to associate these gripes with government over reach to crack pot conspiracy theories in attempt to discredit the fact that this is straight up ########.
We're just ###### man.
Back to your question, unfortunately, there is a way to do this that we'll likely see in my lifetime. AI could objectively monitor this and keep humans in line through on-line communications. Hate to even bring that up, b/c I'm sure these #### suckers are probably kicking the tires on that now.

The problem is people are being bombarded with outright lies...and the reality is, there are large swathes of people out there who have no immunity to it.
I think given time, the world will build up an immunity to fake news and disinformation. The problem is we may not have that time.
Trump tried, and came scarily close, to seizing power here in the US of A. What would have resulted would not have remotely resembled democracy, and your red-ant/blue ant "it's all the same" philosophy - which has in the past been mostly correct - would have gone completely out the window because the red ants would have lost their everfreakin' minds and tried to devour the blue hive alive, and America as we know it would have gone right down the tubes with it. The red ant/blue ant perpetual balancing act only works as long as neither side wins...it's actually a thoroughly crappy way to run a government since there are only two levers.

metaphorically, of course.
In order for us as a society to become "immune to fake news and disinformation", we first have to align on truth. In order to do that, on topics that require it, we must be allowed to debate. There are undoubtedly conversations and topics, in this day and age, that are debate prohibitive due to arbitrary restrictions placed on us by private corporations (in my view, serving as a proxy for the government), and now a government agency set to "battle disinformation".
Does anyone even know what disinformation really is? Have we aligned on that? Or we just walking around with our eyes glued to our phones looking up when we're told?
There's zero, and I mean absolutely ####### zero, objective alignment on what the facts are with respect to a lot of "hot topic" issues these days that are steering people to a respective political party. Both sides are doing it.
And then, the issues that are actually impactful to our abilities to provide for our families, and create a better environment for the next generation, are completely glossed over in mainstream rhetoric...b/c both ####### sides have the exact same position. Fund wars. Pump money to the shareholders. Tax the #### out of the middle class. It's blasphemy.
I think it's disingenuous to make the claim in your 3rd paragraph, b/c if I switch the red and blue in your statement, that's what happening right ####### now. If you agree with this that's one thing, but I don't really see you attacking the other side of the coin very often (if ever, and apologies if I'm off base here, I try to avoid the political theory / mud slinging bot fests).
There's US Congress members (both sides, mind you), on record, claiming we need to go after political opponents on the other side of the aisle for thinking in a manner that doesn't align with their Party's road map.
America, as we know it, is going right down the tubes. And no one cares. The priority is placed on slinging mud at the other colored ant instead of trying to objectively assess what our problems are and work towards logical, viable solutions to those problems.
And just FYI - The red ant / blue ant parable that I allude to has nothing to do w/ balancing. It has to do with different colored ants being in a jar, peacefully cohabitating, until exterior forces shake the jar to get them to fight. Prior to a disruption of their cohabitation, they're able to mingle amongst one another. When the jar is shaken, they begin blaming the other species and try to kill each other.
Of note, I don't think this has been scientifically proven...lol...like all parables I reckon....but it's a very good analogy to what's happening, IMO.

Disinformation on social media is a clear problem, but this is not the answer. We cannot trust the government--more specifically, either ruling party--to do it responsibly.

Which is pretty much everybody to you.
I mean...dude. You called John McCain, Paul Ryan, Mitt Romney, and Mitch freaking McConnell "commies."
It can safely be interpreted that 95% of us are "Commies" in that miswired mass of dysfunction you call a head of yours.
