TNET: NFL analyst would pick Zach Wilson over 'God-like' Trevor Lawrence

NFL analyst would pick Zach Wilson over 'God-like' Trevor Lawrence

Former quarterback Chris Simms knows a little about playing quarterback in the NFL. Mostly of the journeyman variety, but it still counts. The analyst for NBC Sports was recently on NFL Network's "Good Morning Football" and had a bold take stating that Trevor Lawrence's possible No. 1 overall select Read Update »

I think they both may be great. I think Fields may be great as well. Trevor Lawrence is way safer than all 3. He is guaranteed to have a very good career. Will he be the best of 3? Who knows? He is safe lock though to be very good. Hopefully he ends up great.

Coastal Carolina and he did not impress me at all in the BYU loss.

Simms is just trying to create conversation. I’ve heard no one call Wilson a once in a generation QB. Trevor has been called a once in a generation QB by many of the NFL pundits.

It will interesting to compare the two over the next several NFL seasons.

Straight from the Libbie's mouth! He just does not like professing Christ followers, never has, go back and listen to his talk on quarterbacks and his left leaning verbiage. He obviously did not pay attention to detail to much, because last i heard a offensive line matters and ours was Offensive last year!

I usually dislike most talking heads that point out flaws in Clemson players, but then again I am a fan. To your point of trashing Christ followers LDS followers profess to follow Christ as well. This comment is also forgetting that the honor code for BYU is far more stringent than the code of conduct for most university athletes. I recall a mens basketball player being dismissed from not only the team, but the school, a few years ago for kissing his girlfriend in public. This code is also based in religious belief. The University is also church sponsored. While I think there is an attack on Christians in the media I do not believe that to be the motive this time.

Eh, I'm not so sure. At the collegiate level, there is definitely more evidence in DW4s favor but that is also a credit to just how dominant TL16 was in most games.

We'll definitely have a better idea in the NFL as TL16 is going to be playing in plenty of closer games vs college. I know I'm curious to see him lead a team in close games as he didn't really have a lot of close games heading into the final mins like DW4 in college.

IMO I don't think DW4 has any better result with the past 2 Tiger teams TL16 had against whom they faced.

Maybe the games are closer but when our defense can't make stops or our Oline is getting no push consistently that's not going to bode well for any great QB playing.

However, Big Cinco is gonna be another fun one to watch! If Clemson runs the table this year I feel like he's got a great chance to do what neither TL16 or DW4 have done and that's win back to back championships and possibly a heisman.

I have orange blood but i don't think that Clemson will ever have a Heisman. If DW didn't win it I don't think any others will.
Because we are not like Alabama and Ohio state when we are up by 20 in the third Dabo takes out the starters to give backups some reps.
Like when Alabama is blowing out some measly sec team Saban keeps in Tua or Mac Jones same with Ohio State.

I mean Trev has everything you would want in a QB.
1. Great arm strength
2. Great accuracy
3. Great pocket passer and great scrambler
4. He comes from the best and one of the most strict schools in the country.
5. He is poised
6. Height
7. Consistent

You mean the way Trevor put the team on his back to beat UNC? Or the way Trevor put the team on his back to beat Ohio State after the targeting call? And took us back down the field at the very end of the game to win after Ohio State had retaken the lead?

Trevor can do what DW4 can do, but simply hasn’t been in that many situations because we were far more dominant as a team when Trevor was the quarterback. Trevor hasn’t had the opportunity to prove himself in that way.

Trevor only lost two ball games in three years. He definitely did not play well against LSU and that was a fantastic team. That’s honestly the only bad game I ever saw Trevor play. And then of course we lost to Ohio State this past year. But that wasn’t because of the offense. Trevor played well when they let them throw the ball and had 400 yards passing in that game.

Fields looked terrible against Northwestern and Iowa State! Zac Brooks did not look impressive against coastal Carolina. Brooks might be a good quarterback but he was not nearly as impressive against weaker competition and only one year as a starter. This reminds me of the Mitchell Trubisky situation.

Re: TNET: NFL analyst would pick Zach Wilson over 'God-like' Trevor Lawrence

I grew up a Mormon and so I watch a lot of BYU football. Zach Wilson looks fantastic, against Mountain West and American Conference opponents last year. For one year. He had flashes in the previous year, but struggled in a few games and was injury prone behind a very good and large offensive line. There is a big difference in competition level between Boise St talent ( most talented team he played) and who all Trevor Lawrence played and beat at Clemson (Alabama, Ohio St, Notre Dame, Miami, Texas A+M and the ACC that even if down continually is producing NFL players). Any of these so called "experts" need their expert cards taken for thinking or saying Zach is better than Trevor. It is just a rediclous statement. I think Zach can play, he can make all the throws, has a strong arm, and is elusive enough to scramble on 3rd downs to move the chains. But, I do believe there is going to be a learning curve and it is going to take time for him to adapt to the speed of the game and overall talent level. I think Trevor can start week one. I think on 3-5 years, Trevor will be in the discussion of the the 5 or do best in the league.

It was very close to the same situation with DW4, and Chicago Bears took Mitch Trubisky over DW4. That was a very poor choice by the Bears that they have dearly regretted. Is it possible that Jacksonville could make the same mistake, I really don't think so, but if they do, like the Bears, they will more than deserve what they get, if it isn't TL16!!!!

Some people in order to get attention go against the majority opinions. What is most amazing about little Chris is he also put down the entire ownership management and staff of the Jacksonville Jaguars by stating that their reason for using their overall no. 1 pick for Trevor Lawrence over Zach Wilson was to sell tickets??? First thing I would say to Chris Simms is don’t you ever again confuse the Clemson and South Carolina programs. Clemson right now is one of the top programs in the nation while little brother fires and hires a new coach about every 4 years. Second I would say is he must be good at watching qb play since he spent a majority of this “playing days” riding the pine in the NFL. There’s a reason he works in tv and not in organizations. I wouldn’t trust him to pick me something good to eat for dinner.

Sorry he got me really fired up with the whole u of 6c / Clemson mix up.
