What are your memories of downtown Clemson?

For me ('91), it was Judge Keller's, Mr Knickerbocker's, Manifest Records & Tapes, the Duck Head outlet store (yeah, I was a prep), cheap movies at the Astro, Tigertown Tavern, the hardware/drug store or whatever it was down on the right as you're leaving campus, and buying all my loft materials at Ol' Norm's.

Pitchers of beer and big old greasy Pepperoni Pizzas upstairs at the (original) Study Hall, then wander across and down the street to the Red Carpet Lounge for more adult beverages. (1972-76.)

Also, Fast food in the quadrangle, pool tables in the basement of the Y by the post office. Tuesday night all you can eat at the Thunderbird or Sheradan (not sure which), The fish camp on Lake Hartwell friday night all you can eat catfish. Rabbit Martins bonded distribution in Pickens, ice cream at the dairy, spagetti westerns at downtown movie theater, students in convertables doing drive by moonings as folks left the theater, streakers, pinball and late night 10 cent close up chicken clearance at the Red Carpet. Jane Fonda getting boo’ed out of the amphitheater, diner on 123 between Clemson and Seneca. CDC dance weekends. That was my Clemson.

going to were Dan's, Red Carpet, Judge Keller's, Astro Theatre, Capri's Upstairs, and the Y. i can't even remember if Knickerbockers was there when I was a student or a few years later...when did it open?
And I do remember the music store that two skinny boys with long blond hair worked at. I think they were brothers, played guitars in a band and their dad was a Clemson professor. Seems like he owned the store. Can anyone refresh me on that?

I worked so I only have one.

|
|
My jr year I took a lunch somewhere downtown. It was raining hard and I saw a friend walking so I stopped and gave him a ride back to the library. I was driving a 1968 Datsun B110. The driver's seat wasn't bolted down and I had put a concrete block between the DS and the rear seat so the massive power of that worn out 4cyl engine wouldn't sling me in the back when I pulled out.
The floorboard was rusted through on the passenger's side and I'd put some newspaper there so the water wouldn't spray through the hole and wet my pristine interior.
When Brinley got in he must have dislocated the papers because the water soon hit him right in the face. He laughed and told me he'd sell me a 1971 Pinto for the cost of the new tires and the rebuilt starter he had just in installed. He told me it probably wouldn't last long but he only spent $125 on the car. I agree and picked it up later that day.
Compared to that Datsun it was a new Lincoln Towncar. I told him it would get me through Clemson. He promised to buy it back if it lasted that long.
