Let's do one bit of analysis, if the naysayers have the time

Cycling back to last year's "coming out" party for all the "Cade for Heisman" bull hitters, when we played UNCheat for the ACC Championship, what exactly has changed leading up to today?
Antonio Williams, last year's quick but not overly fast Freshman revelation, has been out for several weeks. Scratch one.
Cole Turner, the one and only bombardier on last year's WRU hype video, is out for the season. Scratch two.
Davis Allen, last year's best offensive pass-catching weapon vacated to the Packers. Scratch three.
Beaux Collins made some nice contested catches today, a positive note for sure. But nowhere to be found was another stop-and-go like last week.
Briningstool remains, but has been mostly used in horizontal plays not vertical, can't block, and has been inconsistent overall at best.
Brannon Spector is MIA. Adam Randall hasn't yet moved on from his injury - at least statistics wise. Troy Stellato has shown short range flashes only - again on mostly only short range horizontal, out, and comeback routes.
There are no freshman additions of note since the ACCCG, with the sole exception of Tyler Brown, who in his one break out week had 153 yards receiving.
Point 1: THIS is the state of WRU. It has actually improved since 2 years ago believe it or not. Improved notably actually - a special gig for all those maniacal "it's all DJU's fault" haters.
Point 2: With Turner and WiIliams down, only Brown has gotten vertical with any regularity. Either we have absolutely no other competitive speed, or well, we have no speed. Primary among those without this gift seems to be B Collins who runs more 10-yards stops than a high school girl just learning to drive a stick shift. Again, he did make some nice hands catches today, but having all catches being contested is a hard way to live.
Point 3: We seem incapable of scheming our Tight Ends open vertically in the way other schools such as UGA do almost routinely. Having safeties sitting over the top tends to do this.
Point 4: Cade Klubnik has improved. But with few options to throw to downfield, and a suspect OL, standing around in the pocket waiting on a 4.8 guy to get open downfield is only a way to lose your head. He's just now developing the patience to do this anyway.
Given these things, just how explosive do you expect this Offense to be? I think David Hood made this point several weeks ago actually...
It's clear that in previous years we either chose our recruiting targets poorly, or closed poorly on other more capable WR targets. End of story. It ain't any harder than that, and it's been obvious for multiple seasons to anyone who isn't hyper-focused on the man with his hands under the center's butt.
When EJ Williams, Dacari Collins, and Frank Ladson all failed at being meaningful options for other schools, it was only the exclamation point to this thought.
Whining and crying about it every week is just unseemly as hail.....

Wake's, but you'd never know it from watching today's game. Then when you compare our defense to theirs, we should have moved the ball easily on them. Why no downfield throws? NOthing across the middle? If Wake freaking Forest can take that away, somebody got some splainin to do.

Brown was open across the middle in the first half and didn't make the catch. He seemed off a little today. But probably wouldn't be a win without him.

Do you really want him to open the playbook against Wake, or wait until Miami?
We went both across the middle and also deep with Brown last week. I am sure the Coaches had seen that in practice but needed to know if it would translate to game time, and by just how much, so they let it go against the Cuse.
So I have to believe if AW can go, you will see a lot more of him and Brown on deeper more vertical routes against the Canes, as well as fill in underneath routes after Brown or AW clears deep. We did none of that today that I could see.
Further, it's clear that they have told Beaux that he's going to have to catch more of the tougher balls to him. Someone made that point clear, no doubt. And as I suggested, I didn't see one double move today - Mark Herzlich made that point as well.
The question has to be then, why run one for a TD against Cuse but not repeat it this week? I'm hoping it was intentional.
I believe you're going to see a surprised Miami defense in two weeks.

But I don't agree that our lack of offensive effectiveness today was due to us holding back.

Wind was a factor in both teams poor passing

A factor in the passing game for both teams was the wind.
Neither WF’s Griffis nor CK2 posses the arm strength, accuracy, or experience to adjust their ‘throwing effort’ to make their passes accurate downfield in a windy day. This is especially so when throwing into the wind.
Both their D and our D played it tight.
That is why we were able to handle WF super stud WR Jahmal Banks with one on one coverage on deep shots. The ball’s trajectory was too unpredictable (and off target) for J.Banks to perform the same magic that he did against us last year.

I think you nailed it. Not one downfield shot. You know who would have forced a downfield shot. The Chad.
We need to take 2-3 per game.
Wake followed the Duke model playing 2 high and zone and it is working against this offense. Primarily because the oline’s run blocking is below average. It is time for new blood for an offensive line coach.

Improving our Offensive line is the key

Overall the rest of our talent is on par. Yes having a deep threat would be important but the offensive line would make our playmakers better. It would improve our run threat, give our QB more time to to work through reads, which should have positive results.
I would also say that our coaching experience level (years in the business vs the young staff we have) needs to be improved.

Four of our five OL positions are being played very well.
RG has been a problem for us the past two weeks. This diminishes the overall effectiveness of the verbal OL unit.
Also, both SYR and WF run blitzed us a lot. Also kept safeties in the box. This of course made running the ball difficult. Passing games by both teams was impacted by the wind; this made deep shot passes an especially low probability proposition.
Improving our passing game is the key. We need Antonio Williams to come back at full health for Miami game and all other games moving forward.
Then, we need for CK2’s development process to accelerate.

an above average OL would improve things greatly. We've relied on the 'get in the way' blocking for too long. It relies on stellar WR/rb blocking and catching.... plus 'some speed' downfield.

I completely agree with this. The zone RPO blocking is definitely part of the issue. Also, teams do not fear Cade on keeping the ball. He needs to get better at this.
