Curiosity questions: Do you have an EV? Do you plan to buy an EV for your next

car purchase?
Trying to get a feel for just how popular these EVs are and how many are wanting/willing to lay their cash down for one in the future. If yes to either question - what was/is the main factor in your decision?
Me: No EV's at my house and I don't plan to get one so long as I still have the option to buy a gasoline powered car.

No and no. They are more expensive, more difficult to keep charged/fueled and any environmental benefits seem to hover between dubious and outright nonexistent. So what's the allure again?

I bought a hybrid. No external charging required.

This mawn I noticed I was getting 51.2 mpg.
Not a fan of totally electric vehicles tho, mainly due to range and lack of charging stations.

Same. Can't argue with my 50+ mpg hybrid. Smoothest driving car I've ever had as well.

I'm really thinking hard about getting a hybrid at least, simply because I have a lot of windshield time to and from work, and my Tundra only gets about 16 mpg.
Full EV though? Not even considering until the infrastructure is better for it, bc i'm not getting stuck somewhere unable to get a charge.

I’ll buy one when the battery pack is modular. Meaning that I can pull into a station and swap the dead battery for a fresh one, in about 3 minutes.
If people really wanted to save the planet they would all buy Toyota Corollas and keep them for 20 years each.

This is the best argument for considering an EV.
Similar to how you can exchange an empty propane tank for a full replacement tank, as when the grill has run out of propane.
(*). However, the ‘exchange the modular battery pack’ scheme simply won’t work for EV battery power-the-vehicle type batteries. The charge / discharge efficiency of lithium batteries does not lend itself to a long useful lifetime.
Lead / acid batteries which, developed more than a century ago, remains as SOTA for rechargeable batteries with high charge / discharge efficiency. Unfortunately, lead / acid batteries are not capable of providing high + steady discharge rates needed to propel a car down the highway.
The explosion risk of damaged lithium battery packs and unpredictable charge life for old lithium batteries makes the ‘modular battery pack’ exchange business model far more complicated than exchanging the BBQ grill’s propane tanks.

No and no. Not until they improve the batteries to charge quicker and have more charging stations. I don't handle waiting on anything very well.

No and no. At this point it makes zero sense financially and especially no sense with inadequate infrastructure. I’m not paying more and being inconvenienced to make a few people feel all tingly.

400 mile range Home charging is dirt cheap with my utility company. I’d get free electricity for a good chunk of overnight charging. Almost no maintenance. No more oil changes, worry about transmissions, brakes, etc. They haul ### too.

No and no until it makes sense financially and environmentally.
Electricity has to be generated to power all the EV transportation and there ain't enough wind and sunshine to do it at present or ever.
Coal is evil, Hydro is evil, Nuclear is satanic to some. The math doesn't work at present.
Decreasing carbon emissions is probably a worthwhile goal, but figuring how to remove carbon is where the action is actually going to be to make any beneficial impact.

My current car is EV and previous car was a plug-in Hybrid. I plan to never go back to gas.
Also of my 5 kids 3 of them drive electric, the other 2 will likely switch to hybrid or Electric in the near future.

year and I enjoy it. My commute is about 80 miles round trip. I have a level 2 charger at home and we have chargers at my job, so that's works out well. It's perfect for daily use - to and from work, shopping, day trips to Charlotte/Atlanta. We use the ICE (an SUV) for longer trips with the family. All in all, it works well for us. I wouldn't dare take it on a long trip without planning on taking extra time over staying overnight in case I run into issues finding a fast charger.

Clueless and misinformed.
Yes, have a Tesla, easy 300mi range, great supercharging network, and I have 75k miles in two and a half years of ownership.
There's a threshold on road trips where an EV is annoying, it's around 450 miles.
