Is it smart business, by means of officiating ...

for the ACC to start protecting its premier teams through November ?
There was a hint of it and the end of VT/Miami.
The Tigers got a very beneficial holding call, which took away a big completion from the noles & stymied FSU's momentum. (It may have been holding ... I didn't see the call ... but you know what they say ... you can call holding on every play).
Each CFP spot has to be worth millions.
The media talks as though all the at large bids are going to be split up between the SEC and B10 (you can kind of see this coming based on Top25 rankings). The ACC and B12 will have to settle for its lone champion bid.
Sooo ... to throw a wrench in the plans of CF power brokers, should the ACC protect its best teams ? It know its not right, but the ACC is not the one who changed the rules.

The ending of the VT/Miami game may have been mismanaged/called on the field and that lead to what could be seen as a questionable review, but it sure looked like the right call to me. I never saw possession and I think it would've been worse to leave it as it was (in my estimation erroneously) called on the field.
As for our game against FSU... there is no way that many non calls are made on, again in my opinion, clearly PI against our WRs.
Hanlon's razor seems to apply here : "Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity."
I think ACC reffing (and reffing in general from what I've seen this year) has been poor.

That was actually one of the very few holding they called, because it was so darn obvious

They are definitely protecting Miami.
Cal game - blatantly turn their heads on the targeting and just as bad, on the game winning touchdown they had two offensive lineman 5 yards down field on the pass. One of the lineman was blocking at the goal line with an official looking right at him.
Officiating in this league is a joke.

Let me just say that FSU was doing a lot of holding with only one or 2 calls. Look at FSU's second TD, as an exampple.

Smart? Maybe but shortsighted.
IF that actually is occurring and the federal government gets clued in, I would guess there would be all kinds of problems for the ACC and anyone (refs) involved. I can't begin to imagine the charge stacking that some ambitious federal prosecutor would hang on people.

Did you watch the FSU game? They had the DEs in strangle holds the entire game. The play i believe you are talking about is where TJ Parker ran the guy over and the guy held him on the ground on top of him. That's blatant.
Clemson is not getting protected at all. Miami calls might be the worst I've ever seen in college football.

You are worse than the refs if you get on here and post about a supposedly bad call that you never watched. Really?

This brings up an interesting question. Will there be a push for NCAA officials rather than conference officials ? The OP brings up the obvious connection between conference officials and the millions of dollars associated with getting conference teams in the CFP.
I don't believe that there is corruption here (yet), but the appearance of it and the pressure to do it will only grow.

call ever made in history of any football played anywhere on this or any other planet or solar system with the galaxy of infinite worlds.
Stevie Wonder actually called into ACC officials to make sure they threw the flag as he could see it and that is saying something.
ACC never protected Clemson, not even close. The ACC is pure trash, rubbish, that you scrape off your shoes before you would walk into a dumpster..... I have zero respect for this conference, NONE.
Clemson is in the ACC which truly wreaks of nasty repugnant garbage. Any other conference is better than this heap of nonexistent bureaucratic butt kissing show of a supposed conference.
Am I clear enough or do I need to speak up about this spineless gutless monkey-wrench screw heads
