Originally that field was named Ernie Shore field and hosted at Red Sox minor league club. Many Red Sox stars got their careers started here, Ernie Shore included.
After Shore's playing days, he was elected Forsyth Co/W-S sheriff.

Yeah ..... my aunt and uncle lived across the street in Winston-Salem from Ernie. I got to meet him on a number of occasions. He and Babe Ruth once teamed up to pitch a no-hitter.

It does not look right on my tv. No dirt? Never seen anything like that before. Pitcher can’t pick up any dirt and I see no rosin bags.

I do, but I liked the Ernie Shore field better with real grass and a dirt mound. That was the ball parks name before Wake bought it. It had been a red Sox, then cubs, and finally white Sox farm club. The white Sox, W-S Dash built a new stadium downtown off I 40 about 10 years ago. Before that Wake had a nice on campus field.
