Has entered the transfer portal. Back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons at Tulane. Would fulfill a huge need with Mafah leaving. One can dream…

Dabo isn't paying him what he will command. He also isn't coming to be a backup.

the guy just had a 1000yd season, who would be the backup?
And was no lesson learned if going into a season with one viable RB?
But no, Dabo will most likely not contact him

Gideon Davidson should have no problem becoming the starter by midseason seeing he is already on campus.

I think Davidson could be a day one starter. He could have a great year. He could really benefit from a line that will be in its second season under Luke.

I agree with you. I just don't know if Dabo will allow him to start the season.

Gideon will need to gain some weight. He's very skinny right now and probably needs to put on 15-20 pounds. I don't see him as a starter year one.

He is listed at 193, he can play at that weight, and I doubt they will not be able to get 10 lbs on him before the season. Will probably be around 200-205 when the season rolls around.

Nah, his frame can carry 205-210, but it would be hard to safely put that muscle on him. Check out his pics. He is a VERY lean 190. Additionally, he'll have to learn to block, which takes time. That's more important to our coaching staff than running ability.

That might be expecting too much IMHO. He's fast but not big. He might need a year to gain strength and put on some weight. EZ needed the same and there a lot alike.

Why would he be a backup? Clemson is losing their senior back and all that’s left is RB’s who never saw the field. He has way more experience than anyone else on the roster.
He and Gideon Davidson would be a great duo!

Back up to who? It you got to put a wr @ Rb, then you probably don't have much depth at the position. He would start immediately.

Our final five games proved that not to be the case. Why bank on a bunch of backups hopefully emerging when you can go get a ready-made star?

The rb's I am talking about are basically 3 new ones. We aren't going to get another one.

Henderson too. He will likely play a Percy Harvin like roll though. He will line up in the backfield at RB and at slot receiver. Davidson is ready, right now, right this second. He might take part of the season before he dominates anyone, but he is going to be great.

If EZ and Green were it, we probably would have seen them more this year, especially when Mafah and Haynes were both hurt. Gideon should be excellent, but is very thin right now and will need time in the weight room. Haynes was fine in what we saw, but a 1000+ yard rusher would bench him.

It’s not happening unless we lose a couple to the portal by tomorrow.
We’re losing one RB and adding 3 (Randall, Gideon, Henderson)

So, a WR and 2 freshman. Sounds tenuous and overly hopeful. I don't know if this Hughes guy is the one, but I think we would be wise to add a RB with some experience to start until Gideon is ready to go. Henderson is pretty small. He could be a slot receiver or 3rd down back. We lost Mafah this year and had nothing in the tank.

If we didn't even kick the tires on Justice Haynes after recruiting him heavily as a high schooler, I don't think we go after any RBs unfortunately.

How well does Makhi Hughes do in pass protection?
We can’t have a RB that isn’t proficient at pass protection. Period.
Simply cannot expose our franchise player (CK2) to injury related extended absences. Adam Randall and Jay Haynes (assuming he’s OK to play at start of 2025 season) will get the snaps. EZ Money and Jarvis Green next because at the least they have had the benefit of learning where to direct their blocks when they’re not running the ball or off on check-down routes.

Yeah but it's a position that could experience attrition quickly due to injuries. It's better to be safe than sorry. I doubt this particular kid transfers to us as he probably wants the bulk of carries and we need a guy willing to rotate since we need our other backs to have substantial experience after he leaves.

It was known that Davidson was courted by a number of suitors trying to pry him away from Clemson. The word is he was within an eye lash of going elsewhere. The last thing you want is to bring a guy in on top of him when he was told HE WAS THE GUY. Davidson will get every opportunity to win the starting job and I believe he will. He is viewed by some as the top RB in the country this cycle. As far as the seniority comment above, do you really need to be proven wrong with a list of freshmen who have not only started but played major roles to know just how wrong you are? Dabo's motto is, and read very closely, when ALL things are EQUAL they go with seniority.

I’m just thinking it’s better to go after a known talent like Hughes rather than bank on a freshman being RB1. I hope he’s everything he’s cracked up to be but you never know how the adjust to the next level

Until Davidson proves that he can be trusted to pass block, then his snaps will be limited to blow-out games when Vizzina or Pearman are play8ng QB.

I believe we have enough RB’s. Actually pumped up to see that group next season. I loved Mafah and would have loved to have seen what he would have accomplished if he had remained healthy. Wishing he had been 1 and Shipley as 2 for those years together.
Shipley would have been awesome in the slot imo.
