Rollercoaster road. My parents were big USC fans, so I never got to the games until I was in middle school. My uncle had family that lived in Clemson and on that road. Looking at the stadium from the bridge and riding to their house while feeling that intense road as a kid.

Clint Morgan was a great man and his shoulder massages after a haircut were terrific. After Clint closed his below ground College Avenue shop, he worked awhile at the Clemson House Barbershop. He brought that electric massager with him and would use if long time customers asked for it. It wasn't long before Dennis, Joe and the other barbers told him to stop offering it as it took away some of their customers who would rather wait for Clint's chair.

After much thought, my favorite place has to be section AA, row A of Memorial Stadium. It was here in 2007 against Wake Forrest, where CJ Spiller, the Refs, and I were set on a collision course. CJ received a kickoff in a game that ended up as a blowout, much different than the year before that was a miracle win. Once receiving the kick, CJ headed up the home sideline towards the student section. I was sitting on the first row of section AA. Once I knew he was home free for the touch down, I slapped the bricks below me and motioned my arms in an inviting, come give me a hug/lambo leap, pose. He made direct eye contact with me and proceeded to run through the endzone and jump into my arms on the first row. The rest of the kickoff return team also joined in and it became a big sweaty mess of fun, and all the student section tried to get in on the action. As they left the pile and jumped off the wall, the zebras threw an unsportsmanlike on the team and presumably me, as I started the entire ordeal. CJ then got a good chewing from Dabo but the rest was history. If you can find footage, you can see me with a purple hat and sunglasses as the mob dissipates to the sideline.

The lawn at Littlejohn on football game days. I love the tailgating, many years of Tiger Tailgate Shows, and the anticipation of a great game and a Clemson win.

Left Field Bleachers of Doug Kingsmore Stadium. While going to school there in the early 2000s loved to go to night games from the Bleachers. Foul balls were a given, sunsets were amazing, and Tigers were always on top.

The Carillon Garden is my favorite spot at Clemson. I selected that spot to ask my wife to marry me. I had scoped it out and had my grand plan in place. I was going to get on one knee in front of the bell and pull the ring out of my pocket and pop the question. When we arrived at the bell on Friday afternoon, there was a wedding rehearsal in progress and the groom to be was standing in front of the bell waiting for whatever sequence he was going to be in next. We made a little small talk with him as I tried to come up with plan B. Plan B became the Amphitheater and she said yes. We've told that story many times and it adds to how special our relationship and marriage is.

Amphitheater for me. Many breaks between classes there hanging out with friends or just by myself listening to music on my Walkman. Saw The Doors movie there when they put up a huge screen for everyone to watch. Can't remember if it was homecoming or just regular games but the Friday night rally before a football game and the greek week festivities. All good times. Not trying to win anything but it did get me to thinking about it.

Y-BEACH
Why special to me? It's where my wife and I got engaged almost 50 years ago.

And now for a little more background...

Beginning around 1957/1954 (when I was 3 or 4), my dad (who was a longtime, avid IPTAY member and graduate of the Class of '47) started taking me to Clemson football games.

Approximately 15 years after my first visit to Clemson, I started my freshman year as a Tiger.

Couple years after that, I met a coed who I thouhgt was pretty dang cute. We started dating and never looked back. Our first date was at what was then the Y-barn, and in my last semester at Clemson, we got engaged "next door" to the site of our first date at that place we visited many times as students .......no place other than Y-BEACH!!

Te next summer, I married that Tiger girlfriend!

In 1998, we sent our first son to Clemson, two years later, we sent our daughter.

And many times when we're in Clemson (48 years of IPTAY and season ticket holders), we go back out to the Y-beach, and I always try to make sure it includes a kiss with my Tiger Bride.

Only thing we celebrate almost as much these days are taking multiple grandchildren to football games, and our next hope is that our odest grandchild (who graduates hgh school in 2 years) will become a 4th generation Tiger! And if this happens, I will 100% be taking him and explaing to him the importance of that special place in TigerTown called the Y-BEACH!!

Go TIGERS!

Standing at the top of the Hill

I remember my father driving me around campus when we arrived for Orientation. The first place he took me was the top of the Hill, neither of us had ever been on campus before.. We stood there for a second, not saying a word, and I was sold. I imagined the stadium full of fans and the campus swimming in orange, and I knew where I wanted to spend the next 4+ years of my life.

Clemson Tiger football game. I was fortunate to have made friends with a guy whose father had been a star player in the early forties and lived down the street from me in Anderson. They never missed a game. We'd always grab a cheeseburger at "Dan's" before walking to the stadium to some of the best seats in the house. Jimmy "the Needle" Addison at QB, Buddy Gore at RB, Harry Olszewski at LB were some of the players I can remember. We'd always run out on the field after the game and try to get a chin strap. Once, I got Charlie Water's chin strap. The Earth stood still for about a week, or so it seemed. Yep, running on to Frank Howard Field, begging for chin straps after a game was "little boy heaven" as far as I was concerned. Go Tigers!

Favorite place? Kind of like asking which one of your kids do you like the best. Each unique. Each different. Each offering their own contribution.

My father taught here for many years. I grew up here for many years.

My favorite place was Fike Fieldhouse. Going to the basketball games was wonderful. 3500 people at a packed gym. Always sat behind the goal at the top under the scoreboard on wooden benches. The seats were on top of the changing rooms for the two teams. The band sat on the right hand side and I sat on the left.

The din was incredible. The band loud and enthusiastic. Away games usually resulted in a significant loss for Clemson. But in the field house all was equal. Even Duke and North Carolina sweated and frequently lost when they came to the field house.

The experience was great. Jim Brennan, Gary Burniski, Choppy Patterson and the other teams Len Chapel, Art Heyman and Jeff Mullins. Vic Bubas, Frank McGuire, and Press Maravich.

The experiences in the fieldhouse encapsulated all that was special about Clemson Tigers. Energy, support, dedication, perseverance, and family. Great Stuff.

Hugh Macaulay

I think it would have to be almost any classroom at Clemson. I totally miss listening to professors and taking tests and exams. I always loved getting up to go to an 8:00 am lecture (doesn’t everyone)? With my morning hangover still making things a bit hazy I would consider things like, there’s a fine line between Monday night and Tuesday morning.

My favorite spot is on the football field after a game with my son and grandkids. The grandkids on his shoulders seeking autographs and high fives is priceless. After that, watching the kids run down the hill. It doesn't get much better than that for me.
