Thoughts after the game.

1. Obviously, the coaches have failed to acknowledge the problems. This starts with Dabo. He keeps telling us and himself that it's just little mistakes here, and little bad breaks there. Until he fully acknowledges (to himself and the staff) that we our approach to offense is fundamentally broken, we will not improve.
2. The defense deserves very little blame. They got NO help. Eventually UGA wore them down. There are some concerns, but we are good enough on D to make the playoffs. It's obviously our O that is killing us.
3. We knew this last year, but Tyler Grisham has massively failed. The WR's are not developed. They are poorly coached.
4. Dabo gave us an amazing run. He deserves a statue for that. I really really like him and I really wanted his approach to work. But he has not been able to recover from the stumble.
5. I thought OL look improved. Cade had enough time to operate for us to score. It was not OL that killed us on O.
6. Cade is very very obviously not the guy we need to be elite. It's worse than it looks initially. He can't see the field. He can't think straight half the time. He doesn't have it. This seemed obvious to me last year.
7. I am back to 90's mode.... just beat the coots and get to a bowl. No more embarrassing losses.
8. I know the transfer portal is the biggest narrative but I still don't think that is the primary issue. We had two blue chips that we didn't incorporate into the game. We just kept throwing to Randall (who was extremely bad most of the chances he got) and Turner (who is not a power 5 WR). Maybe we should have picked up a QB, but it would have been very controversial to go into this season starting a transfer. They tried to make it Cade's team. After our 5 game win streak, it didn't make since to go out and buy a transfer. Defense had the horses on the depth chart. We got killed because of coaching, not because we don't have enough talent on the roster (except QB.)

Weren't incorporated on a series or two.
Plus, I am NOT convinced about our O-coordinator Garret; thinking he got a huge break & deluxe resume from his great TCU win over Michigan but losing to UGa by 70 was telling.
Oh, his O didn't score a TD in 2 of our last 3 games!!
Plus his USCsr brother coach is the true O genius.

I just don't feel it's totally due to then being with down. They have up TD's the first two possession s coming out of half time. They were rested

What I'm saying is, UGA scored on they're 1st possession

coming out of halftime. We then drive the ball for a little over 5 minutes, UGA scored on they're next possession. That's not due to the D being gassed. They simply just got beat on those 2 possessions. Not blaming the D for this one, just saying they had their fair share of issues also.

I agree that there are opportunities for improvement on defense...

but if we had scored 1 or 2 touchdowns in the first half then it helps take pressure off the defense.
UGA could be very patient as it knew we were hapless on O.

Agreed The offense is so frustrating to watch. Same thing as the last seasons overall. My expectations were low going into the game and the second half didn’t raise them at all.

I was hoping we would never have to see those kinda seasons again like what happen under Ken Hatfield and Tommy West both good guys just average head coaches but if the current coaching staff and players continue to put the kinda effort that they put out on the field like today then 6,7 and 8 wins will surely happen I'm afraid

Nice post.
Considering the portal……All CDS needs is 3-4 portal kids a year. Are we really gonna believe that he has it figured out while everyone else in college football has it wrong.?!?! Seriously. Do what UGA and BAMA does. You are literally handicapping yourself and shooting yourself in the foot….. For zero reason.
3-4 older proven kids From portal would help fill holes from injury, poor evals., people that leave. I thought he would’ve made the changes by now, or I was led to believe he would.
He has so unnecessarily painted himself into a corner. Totally self-inflicted and unnecessary.
Less is more here.
I will also say that he is dabbling too much in the offense…still…..

Been saying this for three years. Dabo will not use the portal because he knows he will not play them over one of his recruits.

Dabos arrogance is the barrier here. In his mind he sees it as a slight against him for not choosing Clemson in the first place. Why would he recruit/pay a portal player if he didn't choose me to begin with. Dabo is many things. Successful and inspiring among them. Arrogance and conceit as well.

I have seen worse talent perform better on the field at WR.
WR coaching is producing about the worst results you will see.

Apparently, Dabo recruits HS players to come in and earn their NIL money on the field. He does a great job of selling the school but, when it's time to commit, it's difficult for a 17-18 year old to say no to six, maybe even seven, figures from a competitor when we are basically offering an allowance for the first year.
I believe he needs to either rethink use of the transfer portal or pay for top rated high school talent (maybe both?) if he wants to get the level of talent we enjoyed five years ago back at Clemson again.

In my opinion, our terrible WR coaching is a bigger deal than not

bringing in new guys at that position. We have enough talent to do MUCH better at that position. I'm not arguing against bringing guys in, I am simply saying one seems an even bigger deal than the other to me.
As for QB, it just looks like we have missed terribly. But we would have to pay a couple million dollars for a good transfer QB. I bet we score at least 14 more points vs UGA with Pearman in.

Man you nailed it. Where are all the it’s all the OL fault guys? Oh I know they are the ones that berated everyone that didn’t predict a victory over the dogs.
Cade was going to have to prove me wrong. I wasn’t about back him up until I saw him prove it.

I think there are a few instances where Cade had an opportunity to throw it deep

and either didn't feel confident enough to follow through, or didn't see the opportunity.
When he did throw long balls he under-threw them half the time. He had a couple great throws and his WR's certainly didn't make it easier on him, but Cade deserves his own piece of the large pie of blame.
I don't buy the idea that the offense is Garret's. It looks just like what we saw from Streeter and Elliot.

I think you’re absolutely right. This offense even the pundits are saying is old and known… plus I have to admit we do not have a good quarterback. He is mediocre at best and that doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate how hard he tried, but that ain’t good enough these days.

I have to say that I agreed with every point that you made and it was made beautifully. Especially point number six. I’m so depressed today and yet I feel ridiculous because after all, it’s a football game, but I think most avid fans feel like we are really heading in the wrong direction and we want to see from Dabo some acknowledgment that things are going to change and none of us see that yet!

Some other things I noticed since...
Sep 2, 2024, 3:57 PM
|
|
Our top two RB's averaged 3.8 yards a carry. Not terrible or hopeless.
6 solid/decent passes were wiped out by 2 drops, 2 penalties and 2 not even seeing the ball.
Defense gave up 6.3 yards per rush. (In 2021 vs them it was 3.9, In 2014 it was 8.0, in 2013 it was 5.4)
The last time we beat UGA they scored more points and had 100 more yards than they did this year. Offense helps.

How can you say Cade is not seeing the field. Rewatch the first half, and find plays where he did not see an open receiver? I'll show you a play where he found Cole getting open on a huge 50+ yard pass, but Cole quit. I'll show you a play where Adam Randall ran the wrong route - that's how it appeared to me after Dabo got in Randall's ear after Cade rolled to the right with no receiver there.
Stop blaming Cade!

UGA picked on a short Terrell. Our DBs got picked by umpires. A variety of offensive players made critical mistakes in the first half. Only one such player made multiple mistakes - Adam Randall with 3. Maybe 2 for Cole.
I'm optimistic that we can fix most of this. But maybe Randall needs to sit more. Maybe Wesco & Moore get more playing time. Maybe our future opponents won't be as good as UGA.
