I suspect that the NFL owners, in effect, bribed Cingressional Reps and Senators to sabotage any legislative proposals that threatened the NFL’s de facto collusion to prevent unfettered free agency from happening. The colleges are too numerous, and so many of them have a virulently anti-football philosophy that the colleges would never figure out how to successfully collude.

Businesses have rules in a capital system and the NCAA can effectively be looked at as one business with the right to make their rules. Just like the NFL. Capitalism would have been the courts not getting involved in the first place. If the kid wants to play for them that is his choice.

It is what it is. A few good players will be in the Portal, maybe a few hundred decent players in the Portal and probably a couple of thousand who will never play in a Power 4 game. The Portal is designed to help players move down and be able to live their dream.
