same draft. So I'd get through the season with whatever CAM has left because he deserves to keep his job unless you can get something in a trade for him. If a trade happens you just pick up a one/two year rental, like a Fitzpatrick, etc. The person i feel bad for is McCaffrey b/c they are probably gonna run him into the dirt the next two years. He'll be looking to jump ship i think when arbitration comes around unless they show they can compete for super bowl by then.

Dumbest statement ever. Like an NFL team would tank a season intentionally. What? Will every player agree to just give 50% this season? Just plain irresponsible journalism right there. Giving cred to such a stupid statement.

intentionally making moves to try and waterdown/stack deck against the team with players they do not think will be successful. As poster below and you pointed out, the existing players will continue to play hard as they have to market themselves for future contracts or trades and sometimes it may not work out as management had hoped. The term more refers to management decisions rather than players effort

They were 10-6 in 2010 and went 2-14 the following season. If you watched them play at all that season it was easy to see they were tanking because Manning was gone and Luck was supposed to be the next can't miss QB. They didn't win a game until week 15 when it became obvious they would get the #1 pick as things stood already.
Wouldn't surprise me at all to see Carolina do the same thing.

It’s not a dumb statement at all and it’s not uncommon. Happens in NBA more often. Of course they will not ask the players to underperform. But making roster moves that lessen the talent on the field and lining up contracts to expire at the right time can overrride whatever effort the players put forth.

It’s not a dumb statement at all and it’s not uncommon. Happens in NBA more often. Of course they will not ask the players to underperform. But making roster moves that lessen the talent on the field and lining up contracts to expire at the right time can overrride whatever effort the players put forth.

They tank in an odd way. They give 100% and tank at the same time. It's not that uncommon in sports. They won't go out and get some quality free agent QB or splurge to build a team. They will go with what they have and wait a year.

It might work, but it also could backfire. Just look at the 1989 Cleveland Indians. They sold or traded all their good players, filled their squad with hasbeens and never was, got a manager from a tire store, and #### if they didn't win the division. So even the best laid played fall apart when it all comes together!

Seems like trading Cam would be a signal they were tanking, not keeping him.
If they tank with a healthy Cam on the roster, he won't take it quietly at all.
