This is awful. I know Clemson won but it shows the new world we are in with NIL and TV money. These SEC teams, many of them with little bball history, can now outspend and overcome programs where basketball is historically important.

And then those fans will pound their chest chanting “SEC” when deep down they know that big business has ruined college sports. It’s no longer a level playing field and money has made some teams receive an unfair advantage. Funny how SEC lurkers understand this, but still brag about it. Everyone knew money was going to change things.

But seeing them, a basketball blue blood, get pummeled in their own gym by Alabama just cause Bama can now pay a bunch of basketball money just feels wrong.

Heard UNC fan on radio this morning talking about basketball NIL

Said two starters tonight for Bama were down to them and UNC. Went to Bama because of the money. 5 - 10 uears ago, they would have gone to UNC 9 out of 10 times, but not now.
Said UNC had 2.5 million for basketball NIL, but Bama had 7.5. Seemed crazy for just 12 or 15 players at 2.5 much less 7.5 million to spread around.
Who knows if he had a clue what he was talking about, but sounded plausible.

This is what all the Tobacco Road clowns get for just focusing on round ball. If they built their football programs into monsters we would not be having this conversation.
This era reminds me of the last days of the regional wrestling affiliates with Jim Crockett promotions and WCW and smoky mountain wrestling. Vince McMahon figured everything g out and won the game by taking the biggest wrestling names from every territory and compiling them into one star studded lineup.
The amount of money that came in was staggering and even the great wrestling names who wanted to be loyal to their original brand affiliate (like Rick flair) eventually couldn’t turn down such lucrative offers.
The ACC for whatever reason didn’t emphasize the importance that having a high volume of highly competitive teams would have for the conferences survival.
In the SEC multiple rising stars made the cumulative tide rise, which floated all the boats in the sec, even perennial doormats.
In the ACC the opposite has happened. Just being a member was good enough for some teams, and it killed everybody, even teams that thirsted for excellence.

The irony in your post made me smile as Duke + Carolina became basketball blue bloods because they were paying basketball players before it was legal. The brotherhood at Duke, shoe companies funneling money, etc

I graduated Clemson in 2013. However, I remember being told stories that Clemson almost left the ACC when the Coots did, but decided not to. Bet the powers that be, wish they could rethink that decision. We would’ve been a more attractive brand than the Coots for sure.

ACC and all the others lost shoe money. Funny how pedestrian those schools are now. SEC is now flexing with their TV money and NIL. Its just going to get worse too as ACC falls further behind and big money schools just buy who they want.

The SEC has more money to funnel at AAU. Its that simple.

Biggest problem is some schools in ACC will continue to devote a majority of their athletic budget at basketball while a schools like us and FSU devote our budget to football.
The gap amongst football and basketball schools within the ACC will only widen thus making the ACC even more weak in football. That’s just a fact.

Yes Sir. And I know I've been pretty negative Nancy lately but I guess it's a lot of frustration because most understand this is the new norm and we're not going back.
It does appear we've upped our game in basketball, but how long will that last since the gap is just getting wider and wider.

It’s all blowouts to. Only Cal and Miami at least kept it close.
This is like SEC vs Sun Belt challenge

Sankey is sipping scotch and Phillips is typing up his resume. If Phillips isn't shaking in his loafers after this challenge massacre then he deserves what he gets. The ACC is shockingly bad. UNC ranked 20th and are 4-4. Duke is 9th with 5-2 record. Then people were complaining about SEC having 10 in top 25 but most look legit and their records seem to show it.

He should be. This big bad big east merger was going to make the acc the top conference in all of America... when everyone but tobacco road knew football was king. And that all the best bball players came from the new york area and it'd always be that way.
Sadly, I've seen this movie. I worked in technology and watched the titans IBM get eaten alive because they (IBM) always believed that no one would ever want anything other than a big expensive mainframe computer.

Clemson is an attractive brand and has been successful in the big 3 sports recently and historically. Schools similar to Clemson deserve better in the new landscape of college sports. Being held hostage in the ACC is a problem and it will make it more difficult to compete nationally. I sure hope we have a game plan to navigate this.
