At least in the pros there are salary caps. The college game will collapse under its own weight. I really have lost interest at this point.

It’s been relegated to my loss of interest in basketball. I watch Clemson when they are on and nothing else til tournament time. Sadly football is now at that same level of interest. I really hate it because I stopped pro sports decades ago.

NIL isn't a salary and can't be called by an outsider or a league.
Patrick Mahomes NIL for his State Farm endorsements don't affect either his Chiefs salary or their team salary cap by a cent.

State Farm. He's acted in numerous commercials that are broadcast with great frequency in highly rated settings all over the country. NIL as it's being utilized today in college offers none of that. There is no individual marketing value that most of these kids are providing in exchange for the amount of funds they are supposedly earning in that capacity.

And this is exactly why I have ZERO excitement for the upcoming season. The sport we have loved all our lives is gone.
Yes it would make me feel slightly better if Dabo was playing the portal/NIL game. But I really loved seeing programs develop through recruiting and coaching rather than stealing and paying players.

It is time for Clemson to drop Nike. Why help provide the competition with money? I would like to see Clemson pull all Nike products from the licensed merchandise line too.

FYI: I believe Clemson has a contract with Nike that pays Clemson $58 million over 10 years.
I know Uncle Phil makes his money from Nike stock and he's worth aroung $38-44 billion. He has made very large contributions to the University of Oregon and not just football or athletics. He and his wife Penny funded the "Phil and Penny Knight Campus for Accelerated Scientific Impact" to the tune of $1 billion and of course their is the Knight Law School and the Knight Library
Nike does not make donations to the University of Oregon, Phil Knight makes donations to the University of Oregon. So I suppose indirectly buying nike products increases the stock value and thereby increases Uncle Phil's wealth, which can be used to help the University of Oregon.

I've not seen where they've won a championship. I think they've only been to one CFP. Even with better buildings, better gear, and better ice tubs, it still comes down to blocking and tackling and coaching.

I can't believe that they have completely ruined college sports. What a bunch of idiots. I feel so sorry for the really smart kids who get little or nothing (and actually go deep in debt) and will actually make a difference in society instead of being a simple entertainer. The United States is completely warped on it's priorities.

The NFL has a salary cap at least to challenge them with what teams can pay. Unlimited for them will be like shooting ducks in a gallery...ooops...bad analogy I guess.

This is no different than Alabama taking over 100 players during Bear Bryant’s tenure. He took players just so other schools would not get them. But of course no money was involved back then. Wink, Wink.

Y'all are replying to something that Rick Neuheisel, who hasn't coached in college football for almost 15 years and has no connection to Oregon, said on his radio show as if it's a fact.
It's no secret that Phil Knight wants to win a championship, has already donated approximately a billion dollars to Oregon, and doesn't have many more years left to live, but they don't seem to be spending much more on NIL than other top programs, based on their recruiting results. If they were willing to spend truly unlimited amounts of money, they could have every 5-star in the country.. but they don't have a single 5-star in their 2024 class, according to 24/7.

Ricky hasn't exactly played straight with the facts during his life. He greatly lacks credibility in my opinion. He was fired from the Univ. of Washington (Oregon rival, no wonder the dig at Oregon) for betting on NCAA basketball and lying to the administration about it. After he left Colorado the NCAA four 51 violations that occurred while he was coach there. He's just not someone who should be taking shots at anyone else.

Phil Knight makes donations in a number of other areas, for example: He recently funded $400 million to increase opportunities for minorities in Portland OR.

There is definitely some ethical gray areas when you see Nike directly funding Oregon when 2/3 of the college football world wears Nike. Obviously it's not against the rules, because there are no rules, but it just feels icky.
