Walt Deptula making the case FSU is going to lose big.

The line is down to -4.5 FSU. Started at 8.5
That's huge movement towards Louisville.
Going to be interesting.

my hesitation about UofL in that game...
Oct 28, 2014, 3:50 PM
|
|
Yes, they've got FSU at home; yes, UofL has a great defense; yes, there are a lot of distractions for FSU.
However, UofL is a team with a very strong defense and weak offense, while FSU is a team with a mediocre defense and a very strong offense. That seems like a bad match-up for UofL, because really talented offenses can still usually move the ball and score points on really good defenses. But UofL's crappy offense is going to have to hope FSU can be kept off the scoreboard if they're going to stay in the game.

I don't see UL winning this one now that I've actually thought about it.

I don't think FSU defense is as bad as UL's offense

UL defense will give FSU trouble but the FSU defense will do enough to win the game, especially with FSU's very strong kicking game.

defensive players out of position? Not much, if any. If they play that kind of D against the Criminoles they will have a good shot at winning. My only concern is whether they can score enough points. Maybe with Parker back in good health, maybe they can.

They have key playmakers back on offense like you mentioned

They didn't have their stud WR you mentioned against us or RB Dyer. In Parker's first game this season (2 weeks ago) he had 132 yards receiving and the same game (vs NC St) Dyer ran for 173 yards. At least they have more weapons on offense heading into Thursday night's game and I also read overall as a team they are the healthiest they've been all year. It should be a good game.

They have to lose one before they can lose two, and I think a loss this week will deflate some on the team and make them vulnerable for BC and/or Miami.

Good defense or not. Might take them a half to wear them out enough to score much, but he'll get it done.
I hope he gets sacked violently in the process.

How could you understand him? His mouth is always filled with PJ.
Many analysts are calling for an upset and Deptula will say after the fact that he created the movement. He acts as if more than 1500 people listen to him. Last I looked , the self proclaimed genius had a under .500 pick record on the year.
Ok thanks. I feel better.

I'm in the group that thinks they have a very real chance.
FSU can't run the ball at all this year, and now RB Karlos Williams currently has two charges pending against him, a pretty severe domestic-violence case that the Tally PD will not be at all eager to sweep under the rug with the eyes of the nation watching, and another potential robbery charge. That's serious stuff, and it remains to be seen if he's another Jameis Winston, who seems to light up the more trouble he gets into. Winston's reaction is not the usual one. Usually when guys are in severe trouble they don't sleep well, they're stressed out, and they usually play like crap on gameday.
Contrariwise, Jameis has been out of the spotlight, and out of trouble - at least by his standards - lately, which is not a good thing. When there isn't a problem, Winston seems to manufacture one. (This is not "stupidity", by the way, it means Winston's of that mentality the shrinks call a "crisis-maker", somebody who feels calm only when the excrement is well and truly hitting the fan.) The 'Noles also just had yet another miracle escape this past week against Notre Dame...when the football gods smile on you that benevolently, it's usually a setup. Whom the football gods would destroy, they first make cocky.
The other thing that would concern me is what a poster ahead of me noted - Louisville got Parker and Dyer back, and they're looking very strong. Petrino didn't have a lot of bullets in his gun much of this year; when he has bullets, he's very, very good at using them...he runs a very close second, IMHO, to our guy Steve Spurrier as a pure playcaller. Give him some matchups to exploit and Bobby Petrino will absolutely beat you over the head with them.
Another thing to pay attention to is the so-called "sharps" or "early money" that comes in when a line is released. None of the sharps, for instance, bought into Clemson at -16.5 over 'Cuse last week...when that line was released, it almost instantly came down to -14.5 as the early money came in hard on 'Cuse. When the FSU line came in at -8.5, it shrank to -5, if memory serves, within 24 hours. It's continuing to shrink but that's a trend; what's interesting is that the sharps - who make money betting on this kind of stuff - were all over Louisville at -8.5. The professional bettors think it's going to be very close.
This game has "landmine" written all over it. FSU may well escape; we've seen them do it all year. But if they're going to blow up, it likely starts Thursday night.
