The shrinking United States?

Jan 2, 2022, 6:04 AM

I’m 57 and “semi retiring” beginning this month. My wife and I have been looking forward to seeing more of the country. It now feels like we will have to look at a map and say “nope can’t go there, better not go there, Lord no can’t go there”. Oh well, there’s a few good areas left for now I guess.

Bad advice Tbalm. Lee Harvey Oswald found Minsk depressing which led to a whole other problem. Hard no on Belarus.

Jeez, am I the only one who got the satire from Balm? The OP, knowing the nature of his previous posts, is saying in essence that Lord knows he can't go to Cali, Oregon, Miami, etc. etc., but there are still some Red areas that he guesses that are still OK. So, Balm suggests a VERY Red area like Belarus. I personally found it very amusing even though there are areas of the country that I would not enjoy right now for the same reasons as the OP.

And yet, y'all are the ones acting like authoritarian commies. Interesting.

I proudly side with the libbies on two issues, Trump and anything I find funny. Balm's post was the later. If the right wasn't going so far right now with the Trump faction, I'd gladly renounce my independent status and rejoin the red side .... former bro.

LOL, I got the semi-not serious thing. So, let me know when you are going to Seattle or San Fran. to visit the tent cities of the homeless, step in the caca on the sidewalk or to get caught up in the smash-n-grab mass robberies. Also, you keep acting like we normal people have nothing to fear from Trump and yet ....

https://nypost.com/2021/08/08/trump-still-leader-of-republican-party-rnc-chair-ronna-mcdaniel/

Figured I'd get the news from the Post of the NYC variety so you might believe that, in spite of inciting an insurrection and trying to overturn a free and fair election, which is just about as UN-AMERICAN as you can get, Trump STILL remains the leader of the Pubs, and THIS IS THE REASON WHY it's my FORMER party.

Tbalm has some high browed posts no doubt. Again, Belarus is still low on my travel bucket list, but maybe we all should reconsider. Thanks - Tbalm.

Except, there's the small issue that not all tourism to Belarus is voluntary. Or temporary.

Yeah…and I’m not trying to pick a fight with Tardog…actually just interested.

If I’m going to see the country, I’m not going to let regional/local politics limit my travels. I’ll go see the usual…Grand Canyon and major national parks. I wouldn’t spend much time major cities, although SF and NYC still hold enough appeal that I would gladly visit. I’d like to get up to WY and MT…have never been. Regardless of politics, CA has some of the most beautiful places/scenery as well…I wouldn’t avoid it.

In fact, for my sons graduation trip, we had discussed flying out to SD or LA and taking the PCH up to SF and then heading into Napa Valley and Yosemite…but we have decided on Hawaii (Maui) instead.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I went to Yellowstone for the first time a couple months

Jan 2, 2022, 1:21 PM

ago it was awesome. We were going to do Alaska next but one of the major roads to a park I want to go to is being rebuilt. Grand Canyon, Hawaii or St Lucia will take its place this year.

I'm not retired yet, but I'm going to start to travel a lot. Spend some of that retirement savings while I still can.

See Neal’s post below. Those are the areas I would avoid. Part of it is because the defund the police cities feel pretty dangerous now but to be honest it’s mostly because I just hate cities and traffic in general. Heck, I can’t stand driving down Clemson Boulevard.

Chicago is one of my favorite cities, also recently

visited San Fran and it was great. Not at all like you hear about on the news. Still would rather go national parks for a trip, but some big cities are fun to visit for 2-3 days.

Maybe seek mental help first? The USA is awesome all over. You need a psychiatrist is you're being serious. This a great a country. You've lost your mind.

Take to the roads rather than the highways. You've seen the cities on the news and rightly have nothing for them. America is not in those cities but you will find America where news is not made.

America is still huge but our focus is too tight to see it.
