The DJ Weight Loss of 30-35 Pounds is HUGE

The average NFL QB is at 14.4% body fat so if DJ lost 35 lbs and presumptively gained muscle mass in the process that would indicate he at his high point of 260ish was likely very much "out of shape" for an elite QB. He still would be very fit compared to most of the TNETs people except Spud and that UGAY guy who has to tell us how fit he is.
Will be really cool if DJ is now really super fit.

reminds me of when Tahj got fat on Chik filet. I think we went 6-7 that year. He lost a bunch of weight got in shape over the next summer and we came back and won the ACC for the first time in like 20 years.

The 6-7 year was TBs Freshman season and KP was the starter.
TB became the starter the next year and we won the ACC and he had 3 consecutive 3800+ yard, 30+ touchdown seasons.

He lost ~35 lbs between 2011 and 2012. He was a little chunker in 2011.

ahh you’re right. It was the year we started 8-0 and then lost 3 or four straight. Either way I remember him saying his diet and weight attributed to his less than stellar performance and he shed some weight and came back and played better.

It is a lot for anyone but not so much at his age.

DJ has most all the fundamentals downpat. His arm slot is near as good a Trevor's or DW's. His footwork in fine except when he sees ghost or under pressure from bodies.
His problem is between his ears. His brain freezes when the ball is snapped and he makes decisions according to that.

his decision making was still too slow and he was still over/under throwing receivers.

Agree, but didn’t seem to help him much in the spring game. The spring game isn’t exactly a good indicator though. His issues seem to be more in between the ears.
I’m pulling for him to light it up this year. He’s worked really hard by all accounts and seems to have gone through a lot.

I do agree . . . but the Steelers had a QB that wasn't exactly fit and he will be a HOFer in a couple more years.

He still needs to lose another 8-10 pounds to get down to a more ideal playing weight of between 223 and 228 pounds maximum! Otherwise he will lose his edge in mobility and quickness!

did you calculate his ideal weight or reference a chart which shows ideal weights of a QB?

This should help with designed QB runs. We saw a lot of them with DW4 and Trevor was effective when he ran. This was something that was obviously lacking last year.

Run The QB!

With a lot of inexperience behind him; and DJ hurt as well - the QB room was just super thin. Likely affected the play calling as well as instruction to DJU regarding "getting extra yards and not taking unneeded hits"! It probably made him "think too much"!
Hopefully, now with more depth plus a healthy DJU we see the 5-star version of him.
The OL will be improved too I believe; which is only going to help.
Kyle Richardson is also going to help.
