Don't be shocked if he is able to grab up a few of these, especially in the state of Texas.

There is a way to get 4-5* players to SMU.

A school like TCU gets 4 and 5 stars occasionally , why not SMU under Chad Morris ? The kids in this and next years class all know what he has done with Clemson and its offensive players. I say they can , and will begin to bring in more viable talent. I say that the Chad will be running that conference in 3 years time .

Gary Patterson has done a very good job at TCU....

I think what he has accomplished at TCU is more the exception than the norm. In fifteen seasons at TCU his team have won ten or more games in a season nine times.
Patterson was actually very interested in the Clemson job after Bowden was fired but Clemson was not willing to consider his salary demands.

SMU has a LONG ways to go to get on the level of TCU.

Gary Patterson is also a top 10 coach in the country, maybe even top 5. I think the only guys that are definitively better coaches are Saban and Meyer.

with Saban, but Meyer? Meyer might be the best QB coach in the country and his offenses are always great. He won a title with Chris Leak, turned Tebow into a Heisman winner and won another title with him, turned Braxton Miller and JT Barret into All-American caliber QBs at Ohio State, and has now won Big Ten title game and a playoff game with Cardale Jones in his first two starts after being the 3rd string QB at the start of the season.
And i also think Saban is a very good coach in addition to being a tremendous recruiter and recruiting is part of being a head coach. So yeah... I pretty much couldn't possibly disagree with you any more than i do.

A long way with a lot of history

They haven't been very good since they started playing again after the "death penalty" episode. Hardly have had winning seasons, in what, 25+ years? That's a lot of history to turn around. Every possible recruit never lived during any "glory" SMU had no matter how small it was. Lots of other choices in TX alone.

SMU already had two 4* players committed before Chad. 5* are difficult for everyone, as there are so few. Admittedly this is a long reach for SMU, but they will get some 4* from Texas with Chad.

SMU is a long way from competing with big programs for top player. They are what they are a non power 5 team that hasn't done well as of late. The key is to win the battles again the teams in your conference.

Don't you go listing facts that they got a 4* WR! You heard the bored...that's impossible!
#1 for the accurate info and not just a random assumption.

I'm pretty sure they don't realize it has an awesome campus in the middle of Dallas, and has one of the wealthier fan bases in the nation. You can win, and win big at SMU if SMU is interested in winning. It appears based on their recent basketball and football hires that they are interested again.

But it's interesting that this class for UT isn't heavy in WR but he still decides to decommit. Would have thought he had a good chance to be a star if not even avoid RS.

Remember the kid that throws the javelin in revenge of the nerds? It sort of looks like that, but a little less accurate.

Don't they have a solid dual T QB in the wings?

I remember reading about some kid that Strong liked in their 2014 class. Not sure Swoopes will necessarily win the starting slot again.
